thanks for the input guys. I'm just generally worried with equipment that's coming to 10 years of age and how much longer they'll last + the hassle of replacement parts.

Newer 105 would be nice, so I might just pass and keep looking or save my pennies for something better.

Are you looking to build a bike? Or are you looking to replace the group set on an existing bike? I ask because I have Shimano 2300, which borrows the same shifting style as the old Sora (thumb shifters / Direct Fire.) The overall workmanship on the parts is acceptable but the metals and materials do NOT feel the same as an old Dura-Ace groupset or even an older 105. We'll see how long my groupset will last.

For reference, my cousin's bike has Sora. That groupset is straight up broken and cannot be saved.

I'm currently looking at buying a used bike with a complete ultegra groupset (6500 I believe) and just wondering if its worth purchasing old tech over newer components at a similar pricepoints. I'm not willing to invest too much right now hence the cheapskate-ness :D

604CEFIRO 07-10-2013 10:18 PM

Damn you guys are getting faster with times of 3mins on that climb.

I haven't been able to beat my time of 3:05 that I set in may.

15th St hill climb - Marine to Queens is the new hotness btw :)

in west vancouver, the road up towards cypress turn off. 8% average grade 1.5km long.

6:22 is my time. Game on! Hehe

Got a link to the post? I'm sure the pros here can chime in with their knowledge.

Great times guys! I don't think I can even get sub 4 minutes up the Prospect Point Climb.

I'm still running the original Tiagra/Sora mix groupset on my bike and have had no problems with it. I just enjoy the ride. :)

It might be bc u didn't do a full Stanley park lap and it picked up another segment instead. Happens to me sometimes if I ride on the far left lane and take the inside line on the first bend

Listing: 2004 Devinci Millenium Road Bike 52cm

Apparent specs: 2004 Devinci Millenium - BikePedia

Thanks! Hoping to have a look at it this weekend!

bcrdukes 07-10-2013 10:38 PM

Holy. It's so cheap. I would just get it and when you're done with it, sell it back for the same price or try to make a few extra bucks off of it. I wouldn't worry too much about the age of the group. Just make sure it shifts properly and smoothly.

Thanks for having me tag along! Great evening ride :)

Kinda weird to see women and men get dropped and outclassed within 2 laps ...

Chinese Santa Claus sent me a gift apparently... :)

My fakeley radarlocks.

no time for a review this moment, but im 100% impressed with the shipping time (7 days free shipping) and the quality of the item.

It's sturdy, good quality, comes with 5 lenses (1 clear, two different yellow tinted ones one is darker, 1 polarized, and 1 ice blue), a case to hold everything, 2 nose pieces, and one useless strap.

10/10

BTW... for what it's worth, i did stanley park 4 times just now, and prospect point climb only registered once. not sure why. no one else was on the road except cars.

Alphamale 07-11-2013 01:05 PM

Anyone want to ride tonight?

bcrdukes 07-11-2013 04:30 PM

604CEFIRO,

Did you order them through AliExpress? If so, how was your ordering experience with them? (i.e. do you get spammed with stupid emails?)

604CEFIRO 07-11-2013 06:53 PM

^ Yes, i ordered it through Aliexpress. This is my 2nd order through the website, but my brother does a lot of business orders through them too.

Experience was 10/10 on both transactions.

Ship time was only 7 business days with FREE shipping option. Tracking # included.

I get 'spam' in the way that Aliexpress, like eBay, would send weekly updates or whatever. But you can unsubscribe.

Pay with a creditcard, and no problems at all.

I would definitely recommend buying from them.

Ch28 07-11-2013 07:54 PM

Do you have a link to those?

bcrdukes 07-11-2013 09:11 PM

Casual evening ride with GREddie tonight. Took the False Creek / Burrard Bridge Loop back in to East Van. :) #nohomo

Edit: Just a 7 month update on my Reynolds Solitudes - I've put on just a bit over 1000km on them since December, mixed use of sprints, descents, hill climbs and what have you. I finally noticed a slight imbalance of the rear wheel so I think it may need to be trued. Keep in mind, I'm 200 lbs and as some of the guys I've ridden with claim that I lay down some serious power (which is bull.) My old Shimano RS10 wheels - I practically destroyed them. :D

All in all, a great wheelset especially for $250 - $300 on sale. :)

604CEFIRO 07-12-2013 09:38 AM

Rapha survey came out for those whom have purchased from the website. Just finished it, and got a 15% off coupon code.

EXCELLENT code to use when combining it with any of the Bundle Packages... Some items end up being 30%+ off once combined.

How's this for splurging, but oh so cool.... REcon Jet

604CEFIRO 07-12-2013 11:37 AM

The video preview for that looks awesome but I kinda doubt that when it does hit the market that it functions the way it's presented in the video.

Did u preorder one?

i can see it being a bit heavy, which would piss me off during long hot rides.
