For those who are hesitant of buying off Aliexpress, here's an update on my radarlocks

One of the lenses had some minor scratches on the inside of the lense near the edge.

I took a pic and messaged the seller. They are shipping out a replacement lense for me for free

Great service so far.

Oh nice! Good to hear. Mc.jolaika and I also took the plunge and ordered some "Rapha" kits from them.

Hey, has anyone used Look pedals? Compared to SPD-SL, which do you like better and why?

bcrdukes 07-17-2013 10:35 PM

I think Wormiez is using the Look Keo pedals. Maybe he can chime in but if I recall correctly, those are the only pedals he's ever used.

Spaceship_coupe 07-17-2013 11:38 PM

I'm currently using the Look Keo Carbon Blade pedals and it's my first set of road specific pedals. I love their positive engagement and would definitely recommend them.

Well I think I've discovered the root of my knee problems. My shoes.

I've been commuting this week with runners, yay for A530's! and I was fine, able to push hard with no problems. I switched to my SPD's for a day and knee pain returning almost immediately. John checked the positioning of the cleats on my latest fit. Currently using Shimano M086 shoes in size 44, which are a size too small, should be around a 44.5 or a 45.

Still weighing my options and I would prefer to stick with a SPD style clip due to the hidden cleat.

used spd-sl for years. switched to look keos because they were a newer model included with my bike. not much difference functionally. history of shimano spd-sl goes back to 80s as rebranded looks. so they have the same roots. just cleat shape is slightly different.

dat_steve 07-18-2013 08:58 AM

yup chunk_stir is right - i actually clipped in to my buddy's look pedals with my shimano spd-sl cleats lol. fit wasn't perfect but it just goes to show that they are really really similar.

bd0n 07-18-2013 04:40 PM

anyone headed to la bicicletta for their gran fondo class?

604CEFIRO 07-18-2013 08:47 PM

What's the class for?

Prospect almost killed me tonight. Teaches me to try and go hard when I've ridden about 70k in the last 3 weeks lol.

Isn't that all stuff you can simply Google?

hey the word 'sensible' leaves your vocabulary once you step through the doors of la bicicletta.

Here's your fondo prep. You may email money transfer me $100 for this web seminar.

Training: if you are just starting to 'train' for it, you are about 8 weeks behind. You should start to freak out just about now ;) the hardest sections from van to whistler is compatible to doing 1/2 of the cypress mtn climb. Then u get a bit of a break, and it repeats. If you haven't done cypress, you should make it your best friend. The week of the fondo, no big rides. It's rest week. Keep your rides at a gentle spin. 3 Days out should be a flat spin ride. Rest the night before.

Eating: eat what you want. Doing a fondo doesn't have to change what you eat. Eat a normal meal the night before, don't carb load and pigfeast because u think u'll be able to burn it out. If you do that, you'll feel like shit and bonk real hard. Eat a normal sized meal, or a little bit more than usual. Pound water and stay hydrated 48 hours out. You wanna be pissing clear.

Day of: Light breakfast at least 2-3 hours before the ride. Nothing heavy or you will feel tired during the ride (trying to digest the food = bonk). Two bottles of gaterade, four gels, some granola bars, maybe one banana. Bring shit if u don't intend to stop at all. Don't bring as much if u plan on stopping at the rest points. There's even Wine Tastings at one of the stop points.

Weather riding: It will be sunny, but cool in the morning so bring arm warmers and a gilet. If it rains, fuck it. Man up, no fenders. You're in it for the glory of suffering. Embrace mud butt. You don't wanna look newb with fenders. Looking awesome is half the battle.

Riding Etiquette: Don't half wheel people (google it). Give a half bike length for ppl in front of you. Stay to the far right if you are slow. Pass ONLY on the left. Tell people you're on their left if you're passing. If you need to spit or blow your nose, do it ONLY if there isn't anyone in your way and be mindful of the wind direction. Always be on your hoods / drops with your figure on the trigger to brake in emergencies when riding in a pack. Only be on the tops of your bars if you're climbing.

Never rode in a group before? Go ride with Bicicletta on Tuesday nights from now until then. You will NEED the experience.

Good luck.

Thanks guys for the reassurance. My uncle gave me a set of the Look Keo 2 Max pedals because he thinks that SPD cleats are not very good. Hooray for free pedals while visiting relatives in Asia! Also, the people are quite bike crazy here in Singapore and Indonesia. I also spotted some in Shanghai but they're rare besides the early mornings when traffic is not so bad. Quite a few Cervelo, Orbea, Looks and other brands that are somewhat rare in North America. Also spotted some steel pigeons in China... As well as Hong Fu frames lol.

604CEFIRO 07-19-2013 08:39 AM

I've always been afraid of carbon pedals since I still lay down my bike once in a blue moon LOL. I could imagine myself crying every time i ding against a curb, or fall over. My 105 pedals are super scuffed up.

would a carbon pedal shatter? or chunk?

Ch28 07-19-2013 09:44 AM

I'd assume it'd just crack and chunk off.

Doing Cypress this weekend...not looking forward to it

BRB, getting Rapha kit @ La Bicicletta. :troll:

azncreationz 07-19-2013 04:18 PM

^ you mention riding etiquette, so if it rains, I will be riding with fenders...not only for your own butt, but for everyone who has to tail behind you! Yes, you're going to get soaked either way though.
