Yesterday I was hit by a car that rolled through a stop sign. Wear your helmet guys!!
My right shoulder took most of the impact. The driver remained on the scene and took responsibility. The cops gave him a $17X ticket for running the stop sign. I assume ICBC will cover my medical expenses, but what about my bike? I just bought some new wheels and I think my front wheel is slightly bent, as it doesn't spin freely anymore. The rest of the bike seems ok, though I'm not in any condition to ride and test it out.
The driver is offering to pay and seems like a nice guy, but I guess I would be better off going to ICBC? The cop kept saying I didn't need to involve ICBC because it wasn't an accident with cars and said I didn't to take the driver's insurance info. I did anyways.
thanks,

Good thing you're safe. I had close encounters with cars doing rolling stops as well and they dont seem to sync with cyclists.
I would report to ICBC just to be safe and see if you're eligible for physio and medical expenses. Having a record at ICBC will cover you in case your shoulder need more attention in the future.
Hope you got receipts for your bike and new wheels it would help get some money back.
Good luck and keep us posted Quote:

thanks, | crap, sorry to hear about that!! Hope you're ok, and heal up fast. Bring your bike to reputable bike shop(s) and get a written estimate on how much it would be to fix it up. Yes, go to ICBC! What if something down the line arises with your health, you'd be out of luck. There are specific 'bike' lawyers who will take on cases like this (David Hay) in Vancouver. Good on you for taking the driver's info, the cop doesn't know what he's talking about.

Thanks guys. I filed an ICBC claim after talking with my doctor, since he said there could be other injuries later.
Dunno why the cop told me not to file a claim, instead insisted that me and the driver work it out ourselves since the driver was willing to make things right. He said that it was rare for a driver to stop at the scene for accidents involving cyclists and that I was lucky the driver remained to check on me and phone 911.
Anyways, stay safe out there guys!

wow. glad to hear nothing too major. speedy recovery!
yea glad you made a claim. its always better to claim, whether you go thru with it or not at least icbc knows it happened. better to have a record of it better than not.

Carbs bro.
On another note, I sacrificed more blood to the clipless pedal gods. Fell over on the first time out using the Look Keo 2 Max pedals. It seems that I am destined to fall whenever I switch pedals. Posted via RS Mobile |

i dont do that... heavy greasy food in the morning. bad idea. takes way too long to digest. makes my stomach hurt and tires me out
i do a green drink when i wake up (spinach, kale, carrots, banana, pineapple, hemp seed oil + water). a bit after i eat oat meal, raisins, banana, honey, milk.
solid meal the day before (meat, veggies, carbs). well hydrated.
u should eat light food, easy to digest. Quote:

Hey guys,
I finally got unbanned thanks to a humourless moderator who went ban happy. Any way, just an update, I'm near fully healed but still limited flexibility of my wrist. Any time I apply pressure on it, it hurts like a bitch but so far, so good. Went to do a check up with the doctor and said I should be ok in a week's time.
Bad news is my rear derailleur hanger is a write off (but it saved my frame from being destroyed.) Some scuffs on the rear derailleur but it looks like it took a bit of the impact from the fall. Scuffs on my shift lever (right only.) A new rear derailleur hanger has to be ordered in from Guru so until then, we can't confirm if the rear derailleur is broken or not. John @ Pacific Multisport couldn't bend it back. It was just far too damaged.
Helmet - it's a write off. Need to get a new one for sure.

Finally ponied up the courage to get back onto my bike today despite doctor's orders. Went for a short, brisk ride around my usual False Creek/Burard Bridge route. Wrist is hurting so perhaps I perpetuated the problem further but gotta tough it out regardless rather than sit idle.
Felt great!
