Gear will just depend on the actual temps outside... But what works best for me is layering

This video will explain it all. I basically have everything listed in the video except for winter bib tights. I've ridden through winter subzero with classic rapha bibs and roubaix leg warmers. Everyone's body will be different

If you are planning on riding in this weather (dry cold or wet cold) u will need:

rain jacket / hard shell / soft shell
base layer - merino wool
gloves - wind proof or fully water proof (waterproof will be windproof)
overshoes - wind proof or fully waterproof

optional:
cap - windproof or waterproof w/ flaps that will cover your ears OR
skull cap
neck buff / neck warmer

I will wear my summer jerseys as a midlayer so that I can retain rear pockets, and also use it as a layer to sweat into.

Once the temps are near or below 0*, i'll have a merino base layer, merino long sleeve jersey, and some sort of windbreaker / jacket on top.

Hat, gloves, overshoes are so important its not funny. You won't be able to ride your bike if any of those 3 things are frozen, even if your body is warm.

Yep, went twice. Once on Friday (lined up early) and again on Sunday. Lots of good deals to be had! $45 bib shorts...you could get 4 pairs compared to the price of your Rapha ones. Sugoi Custom pieces were the best deal as always, $10 jerseys, $20 jackets. All other accessories (arm warmers, piston leg warmers, gloves, beanies, etc) were like $5/$10. On the Sunday, the custom tri tanks, singlets, and jerseys were 3 for $5. THREE for $5...plus extra 10% off! I could not resist!

Does anyone here have a BB30 bearing tool that I could rent/borrow? I need to swap out a bearing set.

They were also 10 for $10, plus 10% off too--appeals to the asian in all of us!

So I took the Cervelo out for its maiden ride today to dial in the gears and fit. It feels way different than my old Rocky Mountain Solo, and my riding legs have definitely whithered out in the 2 months I've been off the bike, so I needed any help possible from the bike (maybe it was the strong winds too ;)).

The plus side, I went from 19.25 lbs on the old frame to 17.5 lbs on the Cervelo with the same parts build, save for an upgrade to Ultegra crankset. Really surprised by the low weight for 105 level parts and a 1750g wheelset with heavy-ish tires. It would be pretty easy and not much $$ to get it sub 17 lbs if I ever felt so inclined for bragging rights.

Just picked up a pair of BBB Waterflex overshoes. Feet are getting frozen on the cold evenings. Will post up some pix and a review in the next couple days.

they're very good for cold and rain. been using mine 5 days a week for a year now and still going strong

My gulf racing fixed gear is up for sale. I can post more info if anyone was interested. Car is arriving soon and I would rather get snow tires and rebuild my DH bike. That's where my heart lays

Anyone a member in a local cycling group? If so is it actually worth it? Interested in getting into amateur racing, and it seems this is the most streamline route.

i know a couple guys here race..i forget who though. 604CEFIRO is probably primed and ready to race next season.


so maybe i've just been off the saddle for too long, or maybe it's just a totally different workout but spin class is definitely humbling. i'm working on maintaining a high cadence (110-120) as that's what gets me the most because i normally spin in the 90-100 range. i can grind out the "hill" intervals just fine so that's reassuring.

Been to a Escape Velocity race. Very fun, but be prepared to be humbled very quickly.

I joined a few of the la biceletta tuesday runs. I don't think is really a 'club' per say but I find it a good starting point to learn how to ride as a group.

If bicicletta rides didn't seem like a group then I don't know what would lol. I mean it's more of a social cycling group.
Bicicletta rides on Tuesdays were designed for all levels and did mainly Stanley park laps
Saturday rides were no drop rides, longer distance, varied routes, pace of 25-30km/h with a pack of 10-24 people. 60-100kms.
There are training rides as well where people attack and if u can't keep up you would get dropped.

If you wanna get into racing check out glotman simpson or escape velocity.

If u want a feel for some racing thru winter go try out the velodrome. It's a fucking blast.

It would be nice to do a crit or two next year but we'll see. I still think it's a bit sketchy. I have a day job, don't need a broken collar bone in the mix lol

i want to try the velodrome sooo bad. don't know if my steel beater would fare too well on the track but it'd be cool. if someone wants to get a group in i'd be up for it!

You'll have to attending a couple learn to rides with them before u can go to those open nights

As long as it's fix gear bike with no brakes it's good to go

Had an accident Wednesday afternoon at SFU. Took a shitty bail off the obstacle, front tire slipped off, went over the bars, landed head first. Ended up cracking the helmet in a couple spots, and messed up my back to the point I had to take a day off work and currently have limited mobility.

Just wanted to remind everyone to stay safe out there and wear your helmet! Even riding something you've done plenty of times can still have dire consequences.
