Until the pro peleton is 100% on discs, rim brakes will NEVER become obsolete.

They were just approved in nov 2015 for use in 2016 season.

just my humble 2c but i dont think rim brakes are going to be obsolete anytime soon. i don't think it would be a mistake to go for rim brakes at all, there are pros and cons of both.

What do you guys think about this bike they have for sale at Sportchek $3200 -> $2400. I'm not sure if its the right kind of bike I'm looking for? It seems to say it's more meant for gravel etc. so it doesnt seem like it's comparable to either the Emonda or Domane?

What kind of bike ARE you looking for? Do you want a commuter/road bike or one purley for road cycling?

For that price, i would rather get a Ridley X-Night 60 Disc Bicycle (Unisex) - Mountain Equipment Co-op. Free Shipping Available (if you want a commuter/road bike)

105 groupset, discs. and also, a good warranty through MEC.

good recommendation. maybe im biased, but if you're looking around that price range, you may also want to consider a Look 566

Look 566 Carbon Road bike

bnew 105 gruppo for 2100 and ultegra gruppo for 2500 w/warranty PLUS look keo pedals, bottle cages and bottle

Ok, $2500 for a Look 566 with Ultegra and all the goodies is a pretty good deal haha

Trek S6 is similarly priced right now @ $2600, but with a complete ultegra groupset ( the Look uses FSA crank) Trek Emonda S 6 - Bicycle Sports Pacific, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Langley

But having read reviews, many suggest to get the SL6 ( better frame ), for ~$600 more

Anyone want a 2011 Kona Paddy Wagon? 56cm, black, flip flop hub (currently on freewheel side), flat bar, Conti tires, etc. $250. Ride it away!
Sorry, no pics. I'm in East Vancouver, come take a look if interested.

I ride the 585, and stand by Look frames. The 566 is steered towards comfort with higher headtube. Check out the reviews, the 566 is a good frame but generally if you want fast, the Supersix is best bang for buck.

As a frugal shopper I'm always looking for the next website that gives the lowest prices.

For the last while, RIBBLE was leading the pack in terms of cheapest online prices. Since their acquisition by an investment firm, their prices went up.

I've found a website with pretty competitive prices: https://www.raceviewcycles.com

Even with the shipping fee ($18CAD), depending on what you're buying, this website is still much cheaper than any other competitor website.

Shipping is by Parcel Force 3-5 days to canada, and fee was $18CAD for 2 tires and a bottle of chain lube.

I just bought a pair of the new Vittoria Corsa G+ graphene tires, pretty excited to try them out.

$79.49 per tire on Probikekit
$54.93 per tire on raceviewcycles

The Orbea at Sport Check is an 8-speed groupset. There's nothing wrong with it, but if you will be riding often, you may likely outgrow it. If you want to just get in to cycling, there may be better options out there, but accept and be prepared to shell out more money for a different/better bike if you decide you want to upgrade.

I have a Cinelli with an 8-speed Sora groupset and it works for getting around/commuting. Would I use it for training rides? Probably not haha

Personally, and this is only my personal opinion, I would never buy anything from Bike Doctor.

what do you guys think of this? Power2Max Power Meter + Rotor 3D+ Cranks BB30 + Q-Rings Elliptical Chain Rings (unsure of gearing yet) Power 2 Max power meter with Rotor 3D+ Cranks and Q-Rings sprocket

either that or I go with a brand new Powertap c1 with a 52/36 combination for ~750 cad but I also have to buy a new set of cranks since my ultegra 6800's aren't compatible. and which of the compatible cranks would you recommend? http://www.powertap.com/Uploads/PDF/...patibility.pdf

From personal experience, Rotor stuff is hard to re-sell. I had a set of Rotor 3D cranks a while back and it was a pain in the ass to find the bottom bracket adapters and whatnot. It took a while to actually sell it and only because it was a Cervelo fan boy and he already had a set (he wanted them for his wife's bike.)

thanks for the input. found out the cranks are 175 mm. Currently using a 170 but for my height, 5'6", I believe 165mm would be a good length. I also double checked my bike's bb and I've got a BB86 so not sure how well that'll translate. oh well, back to the search
