If you're looking for a beginner road bike, how about my Rocky Mountain Turbo Limited. A bit older, but in good shape, with 9 spd 105 and Ultegra brakes. PM me if interested and I can give you more details.

need some advice on upgrading!

currently riding a 2012 Trek 1.5 and i feel like i've out grown it plus it was slightly too big for me to start with - aluminium frame, carbon fork, tiagra group set

looking to upgrade (carbon frame, 105 minimum)

considering:

2013/2014 Cervelo R3 - mix of 105 (brake, shifters) and FSA components (FSA crank, cassette) shimano r500 wheels / asking 1850
- asking price seems high considering the components?

2008 Cervelo R3 - full ultegra, 6750 ultegra compact crank, sl-k post, shimano rs10 wheels / asking 1600
- should i be concerned with the age of the frame?

either option is a good jump from what i am currently riding
- don't have the money to spend on a new carbon frame, so i'm going the pre owned route :okay:

thank you in advance for input!

bcrdukes 04-08-2016 12:12 PM

Are you set on a Cervelo? Because at those prices, you're paying the premium for a Cervelo frame.

Derek_N84 04-08-2016 12:34 PM

sort of? i like the idea of going canadian (couldn't find an argon with similar spec yet)

i've been browsing and looking at trek emonda, cannondale synapse, even came across a cinelli saetta but that one sold super quick

is there anything else i shoulder consider?

unit 04-08-2016 01:10 PM

my friend has a 2013 r3, he paid 2k for it brand new from westwood in 2014

604CEFIRO 04-08-2016 01:16 PM

Derek_N84 what size bike are you looking for

bcrdukes 04-08-2016 01:30 PM

Just some food for thought - There are no longer any Cinelli dealers in Vancouver (as far as I know.) The last dealer was Strada Cycles, but they packed up shop.

I understand MEC sells one model, but if you buy a used one, not sure how or if they can help if you have any issues related to the frame itself.

yeah I found the Cinelli on craigs actually, it was from Strada and he had the receipts but I was too slow :lol it's a valid point my friend mentioned as well about no Cinelli dealers meant it would be harder for me to get help if a problem came up

604CEFIRO - looking for a 56cm! :nyan:

Personally, I think it's always taking a chance with buying anything used, whether it be aluminum or carbon (or steel or whatever material). As for carbon, look the entire bike over CLOSELY. Look for hairline cracks, or in the paint. However, it could be possible there's a crack in the carbon underneath the paint. Double check the high stress areas, around the bottom bracket, the drop outs, derailleur hanger, etc. And do you trust the seller? Ask him/her if it's ever been in any crashes, or dropped, or repaired.

604CEFIRO 04-08-2016 04:53 PM

Caveat Emptor.

I've personally had great experiences with buying used. Be smart, do research, be familiar, and ask questions. The bike scene is generally honest I found at least... Everything I'm riding right now is 2nd hand. And lots of good deals to be had! People are negotiable, especially that R2 you're looking at... I'm sure he will move on the price significantly!

Good timing - I am picking up my brand new 2015 Cervelo R3 tomorrow morning! First of all, 2014 is the year the frame was redesigned, so for the first one, there is a distinct difference in value if it's a 2013 or a 2014. Personally, I was not willing to buy a used carbon frame, especially one as old as the 2008.

There are a good number of 2015 model year R2s and R3s left over and available from the warehouse so the local dealer can order them at a discount. Mine is a 2015 R3 Ultegra and as a 2016 would have been $3750, the 2015 is identical and $3000. I would suggest you look at an R2 - it's the identical frame, a slightly cheaper fork, and different parts at a MUCH cheaper price. I believe that the R2 is $2200 for a last year's model and while that's more than $1600, you get a brand new bike, 105 11spd componentry, etc.

I bought mine from the guys at Speed Theory on W 4th and they were great to deal with.

Hope that helps,
Mark

tomatogunk 04-08-2016 08:58 PM

Can any of you tell me if my intended power meter/chainring/cassette setup will work?

Bike is a Look 675 w/ a Press-fit 86.5mm bottom bracket. Ultegra Di2 6870 11 sp

Intended Power meter: Quarq Riken AL 110 BCD 165mm cranks
Intender chain ring: SRAM X-Glide YAW 11 speed 50/34
Intended cassette swap: SRAM wifli 11/32

I've read that the rear cage of the Di2 is the shorter version (ss) but the manual ultegra 6800 has a longer cage variant, the gs. So I intend on buying a manual ultegra and swap the rear cages to accommodate the 11/32 cassette.

Feel free to tell me I'm completely wrong

R2 is actually in my sights as well, stretching the budget even further but strong consideration. +1 to Speed Theory, I was actually planning on going tomorrow!

I mean honestly I do okay on the Trek but I've been bitten by the road bike bug :lol

I could always suck it up another season and then have a more comfortable budget for the new roadie but its the waiting that kills me :okay:

bcrdukes 04-08-2016 09:11 PM

Just do it. :D

You guys recommend any good beginner Hybrid bikes? Looking to ride to work one a week here from Brentwood to Downtown.

Looking to spend up to around $350.

Cheers.

Does anyone know what's up with my brakes? I have a 2012 Devinci copenhagen hybrid and it has disc brakes, Avid Elixir 1.

I previously had an issue where I was riding on a hot day and the rear brake locked up. I carried the bike back home and the only thing I could do to release the rear brake was turn the nut that connected the brake line to the caliper to release some gas/air.

I took the bike back to the shop and they bled the brakes and everything was fine. I rode the bike a few times and then parked it for ~6 months. Now today as I tried to get the bike ready for riding, the rear brakes are locked up again.

Does anyone know why this keeps happening?

Did you go to Speed Theory yesterday? They had a sweet looking R2 there, I was thinking of you. I picked my bike up about 12:00 and rode it back to Port Moody, what an awesome improvement over my Jamis!

Are you looking at new or used? At $350, you can get a new Raleigh, such as this:
Raleigh Detour 3.5 - Bike Doctor

but it's going to have cheap components on it.
If you can budget a little more, at $400, you can get a Devinci St. Tropez or even a Stockholm, such as this:

Good luck on your seach!

It sounds like your answer is within this thread. I think it might be #3 or #4 at the bottom there, too much fluid preventing your pads from retracting if you've already bled them properly.

Anyone caught wind of the SpeedX Leopard on kickstarter? It's essentially a full carbon aero road bike with a built in cycling computer.

Nothing special about the intergrated unit. If it had a built in power meter then it would be more of a selling point. but is basically just a garmin unit integrated into the stem....

azncreationz 04-11-2016 11:07 AM

^ yup, pretty much! But people love anything integrated!

Sold my Kona Paddy Wagon, but now I have a '09 Kona Shonky DJ, with brand new RaceFace Ride DH cranks & BB. Good for jumping, or riding around as a huge BMX like a BAUS around the seawall. Anyone interested?? PM for more details.
