Bicicletta social ride tomorrow. Should be a solid attendance bc of the good weather ahead. Meeting at Stanley Park info booth at 630pm. Depending on attendance, group will be split up (A, B, C, D etc).

Good time to meet some like-minded folks. My team from Pender Racing / Dopo Bici will be there leading the rides. Our ladies team will be out in full force... it'll be worth the visit out, they're easy on the eyes ;)

Interested in joining ^ . As a fellow cyclicst from Richmond, do you usually ride to and from Stanley Park, or do you usually drive there?

azncreationz 05-09-2016 12:56 PM

Anyone order anything from ProBikeKit.ca recently? If so, get dinged with any extra duties/taxes? Which shipping services did they use? Just asking, because with Wiggle/ChainReaction, I've been hearing more cases of people getting hit with the duties and just returning the shipment. What do you think the threshold amount will be?

604CEFIRO 05-09-2016 01:26 PM

Yup, I will ride down from Steveston. It's only 2-3 laps there, casual pace. It's more social than a work out.

Takes me < 1hr to get there at a regular pace

I've heard the same. If it gets shipped via courier (UPS, Fedex, DHL), almost 99% it is taxed and duty applied.

The tip i got was to choose the "free" shipping option which usually always get's delivered by Canadapost.

I had a recent Ribble order from UK arrive by canadapost, no tax.

Raceview Cycles via Royal Mail / canadapost, no tax.

I'll be receiving a PBK order in 1-2 weeks via regular shipping, i'll let u know...

I ordered a $700 order from Merlins and it came Canada Post with no taxes. There is a 10% off coupon max $80 eligible for any items for first time orders at PBK.ca just FYI. I am toying with a set of Dura Ace C24s...

Yeah thanks everyone. I went ahead and placed an order with PBK. Hoping for the best.

New bike day! Here's the GT Aggressor Sport 27.5 mountain bike that I won from Sport Chek yesterday! It was part of the Robson Street Sport Chek grand opening promotion.

...and sold today. :)

Maybe pulling the trigger one day for a set of carbon wheels. Preferably 50mm deep section wheels.

Anyone have experience with them? Is buying used really sketchy? Is braking power much weaker compared to alloy? Probikekit has a couple I that've caught my eye...

if you're worried about braking maybe get carbon wheels with alloy braking surfaces?

Lots of riders out this morning! Went out with a friend to Iona on her Felt Tri bike, and I took out my new bike on it's maiden voyage.

Congrats on the purchase man! Glad I was there to take a look when you were still deciding! Please re-enact your facial expression when you brought it home.

Pretty jealous. In the meantime I'll just continue being slow on my single :(.

Just got a brand new bike and it uses the quick release mechanism for the tires. Any way to protect the tires from theft besides chaining them? Do any of you guys get something called quick release locks? Thanks.

My girlfriend's new 2015 Trek Silque. A pretty nice deal for last year's bike - not inexpensive, but when you consider how much the prices went up in 2016 and how much a bare frame is, it's good value for a top tier women's carbon frame.

If thieves want it bad enough they will take it. I would not recommend anything less than chaining the wheel. It will suck when they take your entire headset and fork along with the wheel.

Pro tip: if youre not prepared to have it stolen, don't use it for commuting to work, especially if you have to lock it outside for extended period of time.

If someone wants your bike they will take it. Ride a <$500 bike to work if u need to chain it in a public place. Something basic that ppl won't want to take.

If your bike is like $1000, imagine seeing a wad of cash chained to a pole ... Wouldn't it seem tempting to u????

Looking for some advice regarding tires.

So my rear tire split/rip/cut, any recommendations for tires?
The ones that came stock are: Kenda Small Block 8, 700 × 32c

Should I buy a new one for $50, or is there a better tire to upgrade to with similar specs and decent cost?

TIA

How much did you guys get it for? I picked up a Trek 2.1 a few years back at their New West location for ~$700 which was about 50% off regular retail. I think I bought it around the fall, so they were doing their annual bike clearance sale.

Is this on a cyclocross bike or ? I think the Small Block 8 are okay, but I've also had luck with Maxxis Holy Rollers.
Otherwise if you need a similar sized tire right away to get rolling for the time being, PM me and I can hook you up with one.
