i like those cliff blox gummies. i pop one or two every 30k or so if i'm feeling a bit low, otherwise its a some sort of dense bar (cliff, vector, etc) that gets nibbled on as the ride goes. |
For myself it depends on distance and effort. Generally... 30-40km I don't carry anything except water 40-60km banana 60km - 100km banana, cliff bar, gel 1 , coffee stop (snack + coffee) As to what to eat, depends on how sensitive your stomach is. Keep in mind, when you're putting out big distance and it's a tough day out there, REAL food like home made rice cakes will go a long way! Lots of great recipes out there for on-bike snacks Quote:

For longer rides, I usually bring an energy bar or two and a gel or two. Pre-rides, especially for the longer rides, I eat a bowl of oatmeal and a banana for breakfast. Buy the steel cut oats! I like the texture of those better I've resorted to the recipe below for energy bars and it tastes quite good actually. As for gels, i'm a big fan of these Born Super Liquid Gels since they taste good but mainly because they're easy to consume since it has a liquid-like consistency. i don't ride that long, maybe 2h on average, but mostly on hills. i eat something after about 45m-1h, then again every 20-30m. just a gel or two since its the easiest to put down. |
If I ride long, I put a fizzie tab in my water bottle, helps with getting rehydrated. I carb up a few days before too and pack something with a lot of nuts in it. Roasted almonds are amazing. I crave deep fried food after a nice sprint. Dunno why. I usually try to avoid those cravings. |

60 km of small hills and i just pack 3 granola bars. I do that 4 days a week. I've never tried gels, is it worth getting? i guess pre-meals does make a difference. |

They are the old Zipp 404s before they became full carbon and got the Firecrest shape. At 1825g, are pretty much boat anchors, but on the other hand, they are a deep wheel and should give some serious aero benefit. The newer Firecrest 404s should be both less drag in a straight line and less affected by cross winds trying to blow you into oncoming traffic. They are very narrow which is certainly the opposite of what most are trying to do these days as wider wheels with slightly larger tires have demonstrated that they are not only more comfortable, but actually faster in most circumstances. ^ I will disagree with the above. I have the Zipp 60's. They are the new version of the old 404's, have dimples, a carbon ferring and alu brake track. I have also owned Zipp 404 firecrest full carbon as well, for a short period of time. I sold them, and bought the Zipp 60's instead because the firecrest's braking performance was pure dog shit. The Zipp 60's brake tracks are alloy and performance is spot on regardless of weather. And you can be confident that you can drag the brakes indefinitely downhill without the fear of your clincher tires blowing off the bead in 35*c+ weather. I bought the 60's because I've never trusted carbon wheels in high heat (ex// Penticton Fondo, Levi Fondo), I've seen enough of my friends blow beads and warp their carbon wheels Sure, the wide profile of Firecrest's are marginally better in cross winds, but in real world performance, I never feel like I'm getting blown to bits. I'm 150 lbs soaking wet. I ride the 60's for everything... Crit racing, hill climbs, fondos, flats, high heat etc. I don't find them heavy. 300-400 grams extra, that is less than 1lb difference between the 60's and the full carbon firecrest's. Go take a piss and a dump and that's about the weight difference. Now if you're talking Firestrike, that's a bit different. [edit] Obviously u can see I favor aluminum brake tracks lol. But to clarify i do like to ride hills and rollers so for descending I favor braking performance over being lightweight Quote:

Anyone know where's the best black /blue book on bikes for GVRD? I know there's a website somewhere but it's usually USD only. Just don't want to be raped by someone who has great parts of a bike but extremely old frame which doesn't justify the value. thx |
