You can pass all the police stops no problem. It's when you hit the constructions, you're forced to turn right to detour; slight uphill and you go back down W41 where UBC begins. |
I wanted to cry yesterday; rode 116 km from Richmond to Cypress. It was my first time up Cypress and hitting 100+ (6:40 hr ride). Wanted to give up 10 times and go home. Very bless I didn't stop and rest at all or else I would've given up. Richmond, UBC, Stanley park then Cypress was a bad idea, I'm going to just train parking my car at bottom of Cypress next time instead It was hot going up, had to take off my bib, and coming down was cold as fuck, hit 68km/h coming down, pretty fun going down I must say. I have to eat better before doing these rides, proper meals in the morning and the night before. Having 4 granola bars just doesn't cut it during the ride. |

I have been up Grouse before without knowing it; made it up 4/5 of the way (Richmond UBC then Grouse) for a 89km ride; again without proper planning (of eating the right breakfast as well as didn't have enough time to go all the way up and had to go home) I've just finished Cypress. My mind wants to mind fuck my body into doing the triple crown. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK |

Just did Tough Mudder on the weekend. Legs are shot, I'll need a recovery day or two lol |
2 Attachment(s) Just did a short and slow ride up Seymour today. FUCK it was hella cold coming down at 8C. It was misty and I was DRENCHED head to toe; I now know what bone chilling pain feels like. Done YVR to Cypress, done YVR to Grouse, just finished up and down Seymour. Fuck Fondo, I'm going to do triple crown before end of summer. Just need to map my routes and see which one I want to start first (due to weather and where to park my car). |
I know the feeling, my hands were so frozen I was worried I couldn't brake last time I went down Seymour. I did the triple crown two years ago when I was in better shape with a few friends: https://www.strava.com/activities/197218715#4644281035 I started at the Ron Andrews Community Centre in North Van. I live in Richmond as well, but I didn't want to add another ~50km to my ride... |

You can definitely do it in less than 6 hours, we stopped and waited for some of the slower people in our group. We did it early morning October. In terms of water, I brought two bottles and 5 cliff bars. You can refill your water bottle at the top of each mountain. You can buy snacks at the top of Grouse and Cypress. I was in a rush to get home at the end, or I would have stopped for lunch and beer at lonsdale... |
down for a slowpoke rs ride hehe |

I've always been a solo rider because I'm a newbie and I HATE when people have to wait for me. I'll let you know how it goes, and I'll report back and see if I'm going to do it again. |

So I'm kind of looking to get into cycling since I started work in Downtown. Any particular bikes that I should look at? After some research, I'm thinking maybe a Giant Defy model? Also, what's the parking situation like in Downtown if you're working an 8-4PM type job? |
You should consider whether your work place can accommodate bicycles, be it a secure bike cage/locker, or allowing you to bring your bike to your office. Ask ZN6 about his bike experience downtown. As for bike, the Giant Defy will do. Well, anything really. |
Can't answer the parking situation thing because I don't work downtown and I also don't feel comfortable leaving my bike anywhere out of sight, hence why I don't even have own a lock. I like the Gaint Defy series and would be my recommendation for a good balance of value and performance. On another note, anyone doing the 149km Canada Day Populaire? It's probably the cheapest ride you can register for. It's $25 to register right now and $30 on the day itself. Canada Day Populaire |
