I would say do the 70+ KM rides on different terrain. Doing hill repeats around Stanley park and UBC will get you to that 70Kms easy. I would add that 100Km ride in once a week and not once a month. The challenge with the long rides are finding someone/group to ride with. PM me if you are looking for people to ride with. Quote:

Finally did my first century over the past weekend and I must say it felt incredibly rewarding. I always thought combat sports were the most rewarding but cycling feels totally different. I use to loathe hills but slowly becoming a fan of them now, just wish I jumped on board sooner instead of flaming it all these years  On another note, I thought I was climbing prospect point at a decent speed until I followed 604CEFIRO on strava :okay: |

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us...t/22166/84108/ I figure the frame msrp is 3900USD, DA9000 is already 1500CDN, I essentially bought the frame after USD to CDN conversion minus duties; everything else on the bike came free. Already put 40km on it. If it didn't get dark, would have put a lot more on it. |
i think its the angle of the picture that makes the stem/post look level. i'd guess ZN6 has a 2-3 inch drop? big drops and slammed stems look great, but as old age sets in i'd rather save my back and be able to sit in the saddle longer lol |
It's interesting - when I had my bike fit done at Speed Theory, we ended up raising my seat by 5mm, setting it back by 5mm, and dropping the stem by 20mm - in theory a much more aggressive combo. Since that time I have done a metric century and another ride close to that length and have noticed no ill effects whatsoever on my back. My takeaway from that was more aggressive =/= less comfortable, but in my case it definitely allowed me to unlock a bit more power from a more efficient geometry. Mark |
It all depends on your physical traits and flexibility. If someone is not flexible at all, and you slam the stem on let's say a Cervelo or a Giant Propel, they are gonna be hurting all over. |
Agree - I have been taking a spacer out every few weeks as my flexibility improves. I think where it is now is likely the end for me (15mm left under my stem on my Cervelo) as I am comfortable here and have a huge seat to stem drop for my height. I suppose my point is it amazes me how many seasoned riders simply leave their stems at full spacer height underneath and never even attempt to lower it because they simply expect it will hurt them. (Not a comment on anybody in this thread, just in general). I am a new rider and not that flexible and my pace of one spacer a month allowed me to drop 35mm of spacer over about 8 weeks with no perceivable impact on comfort. Updated photo to follow soon anyways... bought my bike a new present to roll on muhaha. Mark |
I already moved by stem down by 20mm actually. It's comfortable where I have it now. Can't wait to jump back on when I get home today. |

^ Sure will post some pics at the end of the week for the weekend! |
Racked up just under 80km on the giant already from yesterday and today. Oh man, running on fumes by the end of the ride. This bike keeps pushing you to go faster. It's a superb ride. It's stiff when I need to crank up hills and yet compliant which the carbon wheels help with. I think if I throw 25c on it it will be even more supple. Response is immediate, no hesitation. Even after coming home with the fixie, I'm just compelled to ride this thing. Caught up with the bici ride around stanley park. Lots of traffic. Beach party going on etc. Today was such an amazing day. |
