Went over the bars today on my road bike. The mountain biker in me still comes out once in a while. haha Nose Wheelie failure. My poor wrists lol.

My cardio sucks, but I can still sprint. got a new PR on a segment i've been working on in Stanley park. Goal is to get KOM. haha 15th now out of 12,000. Goes to show, sprint segments don't mean your a fast rider hahaha. 2 second's to go.

I think it's called Nicks Burst 2.0. It's the last slight incline before the long downhill, after the big climb.

Derek_N84 10-20-2016 08:32 AM

God damnnnn you're 15th? I'm 300th :lol

You're close to that KOM! Keep hammering!

unit 10-20-2016 01:10 PM

ever notice on a lot of segments the spread between first and 10th is pretty huge?
like the first place guy will be over 10% faster than the next couple guys.

Does anyone know where I can get a Canada cycling jersey locally or online within 2-3 days? Just got my ticket for the Formosa 900 in Taiwan for Nov 5 and wanna represent

604CEFIRO 10-23-2016 02:19 PM

Thanks guys, it's been an exciting few days riding the new bike, I think I'll definitely be keeping this one for a while.

I still prefer SRAM red22 over dura ace 9000.

Indexing is more defined and quick on sram. There's only 1 paddle to use. Short throw. Weighs less. I also like the mechanical feel of it.

Dura ace is smooth, but shifter throw is still ridiculously long, and I don't enjoy the 2 different levers for up and down shift.

A perfect analogy would be shimano is like driving an automatic, and sram is a manual transmission. Both have positive and negatives.

Anyone wanna trade a full group set? Dura ace 9000 for sram22?

Any tips on where to buy waterproof pants for commuting?
https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5033-250/Adanac-Tights
or
https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5024-812/Drencher-Pants

The drencher pants look a bit too flappy for me...

Not sure if it is too late but MEC on broadway had 2 Primal ones which had maples on them

I think this was asked somewhere in this thread but have you guys been dinged with duties from the following online retailers:

ProBikeKit
Starbike
Wiggle
Ribble
Competitivecyclist

My experience -
ProBikeKit - Yes
Ribble - Yes

Expresso 10-26-2016 09:36 AM

Not on your list but:
Chain Reaction - Yes (DHL)

Maybe we can add the courier as well.

bcrdukes 10-26-2016 08:36 PM

Competitive Cyclist - They ship using UPS to Canada, so fuck that. I'd rather ship to Blaine/Pt. Roberts and pick it up.

604CEFIRO 10-27-2016 11:43 AM

My experience with Ribble, Wiggle, PBK, and Chainreaction is that it's 25/75 when it comes to getting taxed. My last order a few months ago, 1 in 4 orders got taxed and that was the Kask Helmet from Ribble.

Not sure if it depends on the item (ex// bike parts, clothing, complete bikes etc).

I have a PBK order landing shortly, will let u know.

Any advice when buying a bike off cl? It'll be a fixed gear bike, so less parts to look out for I guess. TIA

chain reaction uses DHL if you choose tracked shipping. just go with the slower untracked shipping and you probably won't get dinged.

Less parts to look for but also less availability. If you buy a fixed, make sure it's the right EVERYTHING before you pick it up. I'm talking about crank, cog, frame size, wheelset, handle bars. Literally everything. It's not like you can just pick up a cassette from any old bike store and slap it on. A quality cog, source out a dura-ace, they are worth every penny. Not a lot of people carry omniums if you want those. You gotta be exceedingly picky about choosing the right one for you.

Honestly, I'd just start with a frame and build it up. I stripped down a complete to rebuild it to the specs I want. I'll never buy a completed fixed again unless it's customized to the exact way I want.

Not trying to be a snob at all but when you ride fix, you really don't have any choice after you've put it together so make sure you get it right from the start. I went through the growing pains of building a fg/ss to the way I want it to go. The only thing that's left original from the purchase was really the frame, fork, stem and seat tube. Literally everything has been changed since including headset.

I'm a bike noob, I just wanted something I can keep at work(office has its own personal locked storage for us only) so I can ride it on my break or to grab lunch and lock it outside for a bit without worrying since I don't lock my CX bike outside ever.

It definitely was not exactly what I wanted and I probably would have changed somethings like the pedal, seat, and handlebar. I don't really know enough about the crank and cog stuff.

How much did your setup run you approximately after everything if I may ask?

604CEFIRO 10-30-2016 04:33 PM

Just go to Ride On in Vancouver and take a look at their Masi fixed gear bikes

I think u can cop one for $500-800
