^ that looks like a great purchase for an everyday rider whos not going to be tearing their bike apart for major overhaul. Accomplishes what you need for general maintenance and is very small.

If you want more of a real stand, amazon has a basic one for about $110cad which has good reviews.

I always end up stealing my buddies. Its $400+ and is really nice to use but I you wouldn't catch me buying it...

ghetto but is it sturdy? i was gonna buy a work stand but really all i do is adjust the front and rear mechs and wash the bike.

I haven't used it in awhile, I'll get at it sometime this week and give a better review.

I know it costs more than the other one you're looking at but your back will thank you for having the bike higher on one of these repair stands. It's made general work and bike washing a lot less annoying for me.

I have one of these stands. It's okay if you're just doing adjustments.
Nowadays, I have another stand that holds your bike up from the bottom bracket and downtube. Pros are you don't have to bend over.
I've also owned the Park Stand in the CL ad, but just found it to take up too much space, even though you can fold the legs together. Since I have a limited work area, ended up selling it. Another option is if you already have a sturdy post in your work space, you can buy a Park Tool clamp head that secures to the post.

Or you can get a Topeak or Feedback Sports tripod-type stand, these also fold away for storage/portability. I believe bcrdukes has a Feedback Sports one. MEC was selling them.

Feedback sports stand okay for carbon road bike with carbon seat post?

^Yeah, I use it on my Cervelo's seat post (carbon) and it's fine, but I wrapped the clamp in an old tube that I cut in half and tied off so the clamp itself doesn't touch the carbon. I'd imagine it would scratch if I didn't do that.

I have the same and do the same thing - a small cloth to just make sure the post doesn't scratch. No issues at all.

Do you guys think these stands would be alright to clamp an integrated carbon seat post? I've been using a ghetto stand for years and was wondering if I should pull the trigger on one of these.

I think it'll work fine but I would take similar precautions (e.g. Wrap the clamp in a cloth or spare tube) to prevent any scratches.

If you're looking to avoid any contact with your frame, Park Tools makes a stand that is secured by the front fork and rear wheel, like a Yakima or Thule car mount. This work stand is awesome because it swivels very well and is very secure but it is pricey.

My fiancee's sister's bike got stolen today from an underground parking lot downtown (Dunsmuir and Pender). It's a 2012 Caad 10 Women's 5 with 105 groupset in brushed aluminum with baby blue accents. Size 48. It was not registered with Project 529. It does not have the aero bars in the picture.

Speaking of bike theft...now Garage 529 could be over soon due to lack of funds. That would be a shame, especially in Vancouver where bikes get stolen daily. I know it costs like $13 or so, in some of the bike stores to pay for the Garage 529 decals, but that's not enough funding.

I plan on putting it on my hybrid, 2012 Devinci Copenhagen. It has a carbon seat post, which might pose to be a problem. If I need to, I can swap it out to an aluminum one.

yup, i agree with hipsterfuck^. i have one as well and it works.

however, wish i spent a bit more for a fork mount stand instead. my bike sucks (or probably me) and the fork has a tendency to move around.

I have that exact stand and use it regularly for washing the bikes and some simple mechanical work. No matter how hard you crank it down it is not super sturdy - I wouldn't want to be trying to press in BB cups or something with it, but it works perfectly well for a quick adjustment of brakes, derailleurs, etc.

Ordered one from Mec. Got some Squirt dry lube as well for summer riding. Read good things about it.

Just another option, I got this. About 1/2 the price of the one from MEC, pretty happy with it. Good reviews on site. Pretty sturdy. Could use a bit more bells and whistle but for the price, pretty pleased.
