Can anyone recommend a stem or slim profile cellphone mount for my bike? I'm just a filthy casual biker and don't see the need to buy a garman yet.

Get a garmin and you won't need to buy a phone holder. Garmin comes with a stem mount with bands to secure it to your stem and a clip on stem mount that clips to your bars.

Save your money towards a garmin. Edge 520 is amazing for filthy casuals. Kinda wish I got that rather than the 820 now.

I'm assuming you are looking for a cheap, sturdy, phone mount. I went to Winners/Marshals and found the most sturdiest one. Good thing with them is if you don't like, you can return. It is a bit of trial and error to see what kind of mount works best for your particular bike. Some mounts on top tube, others mount on the handlebars, some mount on the stem. Really depends on your bike size, size of phone, geometry, personal preference, etc.

Too advanced for me, I'm at the "Strava on my phone" stage in my life.

This was an option but unfortunately they only make cases for iphones and samsungs. The generic stick on one has mixed reviews, probably due to the variety of cases the adhesive is sticking to, my current case is a hard rubber so I don't think it will adhere well.

Hey guys, I am looking to replace the stock chainring on my Kilo TT to one with 44T. Will something like this work? or does it have to be single speed specific?

you have to check your chain and freewheel/rear cog. it's chain width specific. my guess is that it's a 1/8" chain?

It 'could' work. Obvious to some, but also be sure to double check your bolt-centre dia. & your spider (4 bolt or 5 bolt). Assuming you're reusing the chainring bolts, you should be ok. But for others who are converting, then you'd need some proper chainring spacers & possibly bolts.

Thank for the pointers, my BCD is 130, should I be concerned if this new chainring is normally an inner or outer?

I'm curious on why you wouldn't buy a track chainring, given that the one you posted is meant to work with derailleurs. If you read some of the reviews some of those guys running this on a single gear are having some issues and some guy even flipped it around to make it work. That's seriously not a good compromise if you ask me.

Why take the chance? It'll work but the question is for how long?

I've always kept the two types distinct to make sure the chain on a single gear is straight and stays on. Sugino makes decent messenger chainrings as well and they are meant for single speed / fixed gear bikes.

I personally would only use use a proper track chain ring that is proper for the chain width if it's going to be on a single gear/ fixed gear.

I'd go for a garmin edge 25 then to save your battery on your phone. It's like half the price of an edge 520, has all the tracking thats important and your phone won't overheat with gps. I found that a dedicated bike gps is much handier when riding. Saves the phone and data when you really need it in an emergency.

Why does the handlebar on it look so big? Proportionally to the bike, it just looks mismatched. Is it just the angle?

Don't think so ... description says:
Completely stock except I swapped the crank last year to a compact set-up.

oh, maybe it's the angle of the shot then. still looks like something decent.

trollguy 05-16-2017 09:59 AM

at least it's taken on the drive side.. just needs to be in big ring and cranks at horizontal.. then he can #baaw

Expresso 05-16-2017 10:32 AM

Personally, I spend a little bit more and find an eleven speed unless you plan to keep the bike forever.

Friendly reminder to wear sunscreen. I goofed and left in the morning without thinking about it and I am now rocking a mean red lower arm sleeve :lol

BlackV62K2 05-23-2017 01:14 PM

Planning on switching to squirt dry lube. What's a good way of stripping all the old grease off the chain? My plan was to get one of those bike chain cleaner tool and just use citrus degreaser, would that be sufficient?

Derek_N84 05-23-2017 01:23 PM

I've personally never done it but I think they would recommend that you soak it?

unit 05-23-2017 01:25 PM

soak it in acetone or paint thinner, or clean it with an ultrasonic cleaner if you have access to one.

I use WD-40 foaming degreaser from BSP. works pretty well. It's kinda wasteful since it kinda gets all over so you're better off taking off the chain and just cleaning it with a toothbrush and citrus degreaser. I use the biodegradable stuff. simple green, I hear, makes the chain a bit brittle.

If you hate the environment, use mineral spirits or kerosene or gasoline. you can filter it out with a coffee filter for the solids and reuse the liquid.

In all cases, dry thoroughly overnight so that the solvents evaoprate before you relube.
