My bike mechanical skills aren't ready for taking the chains off lol. Was hoping to get the chains clean enough to switch to dry lube with the chain being on the bike.

gotta start from somewhere..

Take a pic of how it should look on the rear derailleur

Find the master link, and unlink. comes off and then you can wash. put back in the reverse order you took it off with photo in hand

Anyone ever dealt with ICBC about getting reimbursed for a bike?

On the way to UBC for WTNC going around the roundabout by W 16TH Ave and E Mall a Translink bus blows straight past me and side swipes me. I fall off my bike and bike gets crushed under its right rear wheel. I cried a little

i'm okay. Got a couple of road rashes on my left knee, knuckles and butt cheeks making it hard to sit. Kit destroyed. Worse things could have happened.

Bike is done. RIP

Any help or info would be appreciated.

Ouch. I've had friends that have been doored, but that's it, ICBC has been relatively fair, but these were hipsters on old ass converted fixies, so cost of their rides was negligible relative to personal injury.

I would suspect once you start asking to replace quality components things would get iffy. At first sign of resistance, I would lawyer up.

6793026 05-23-2017 09:45 PM

get a lawyer. 25% payment. No need to pay until you win.
1) go to see the doctor
2) continue to get checkups; physio etc The moment you stop, you'll get these comments "you didn't go therefore, u are better" so you don't get as much money.
3) it's based on "potential" earning. If u're on commission, u're shit out of luck. eg// realtors
4) if u're on salary, then u got something going.
5) get an estimate on bike
6) remember to factor in the lost of work, days you are off to see doctor
7) STOP POSTING shit on social media. If u're hurt, eg// yet u're out partying, ur case gets less credibility.

All in all, i got a decent settlement based on a very minor accident. Someone got 30k (bike included), he was very fair and ensure he went to do all those 7 steps above.

Both of us didn't cheat the system. I know some who tried and failed etc. best of luck.

azncreationz 05-24-2017 05:46 AM

Ouch!! Sorry to hear and see that! I hope you're feeling better soon.
Yes, basically what 6793026 said. The one 'bike lawyer' around here is David Hay, maybe give him a call.

trollguy 05-24-2017 09:52 AM

sounds like you're advocating that he continue to seek treatments as long as he can to get more money. sounds honest.

tomatogunk glad you're okay. definitely could have been worse.

bcrdukes 05-24-2017 09:54 AM

Hey trollguy, can you not read? The guy said he didn't cheat the system, okay?

Edit: Glad you are okay.

I'm advocating to continue treatment upon decision of the doctor's advice and not "i feel fine" attitude.

Not uncommon for a lot of people to stop physio due to work constraint / time off / out of pocket payment first.

Monitoring goes beyond the 3-6 months mark; physio and doctor kept telling the patient to come in and monitor; 2 cyclist went thru the same thing.

One kept going to the doctor and realize there were some misalignment of pressure points / nerve blah blah blah (sorry I don't know the exact medical. term) (he was out for 6 months and didn't realize until 9 months later at start of next season)

The other brushed it off and "rode it off". She tried to bring this up to ICBC during the negotiation and was given the comment.

Oh damn! noooo. sorry to see that man.

IMASA 05-24-2017 05:46 PM

I got hit by a car that ran a stop sign a few years ago. Suffered a stage 2 AC separated shoulder. My bike was mostly fine, though I wished it was written off. ICBC paid for the bike repairs, which was only a few hundred bucks for a new wheel set, rear derailleur, misc adjustments .

They paid for all my medical treatments, though I had full coverage from work. They re-embursed me for my sick time, even though I had tons of sick time at work.

They offered me a low settlement ~1.5k initally, and I just told them I'd wait until my rehab finished. Finally they offered me like ~$10k settlement plus all my medical expenses, bike repairs, helmet, sick time off work etc. I think the total was like $12-13k. I thought it was a fair settlement, didn't bother seeking a lawyer.

I'd worry less about your bike and more about yourself. If you're hurt bad, then perhaps you should lawyer up. I wasn't too banged up. Physio really helped my shoulder and I didn't have any other problems other than cuts/bruises.

Spent a few hours taking my bike apart and cleaning it today. I can never quite get everything 100% clean but it's close enough

Expresso 05-30-2017 10:28 AM

Rotating it doesn't help the blurry image.

I got hit by a car yesterday commuting to work. fucking guy didn't shoulder check on dunsmir and i nailed his front fender as he tried to turn right onto burrard.

fucking guy had scratches all over the right side of his car already and looks like he nailed a pillar too. guy clearly doesn't give a shit about the right side of where he's driving.

trollguy 05-30-2017 02:26 PM

that's a brutal corner. i work down the block i've seen so many close calls from cars vs pedestrians/cyclists alike.

i assume there were a ton of witnesses at least??

Hondaracer 05-31-2017 07:13 AM

looking to buy a bike for just general riding around east van, no commuting just for exercise and going to parks for some beers etc. (insert hipster joke)

what should i look for? budget probably around $500, there are some bikes on craigslist etc. that look decent, 8 speed bikes with road tires etc.

I got one witness, other people just walked off. Pretty early in the morning.

azncreationz 05-31-2017 11:04 AM

Come pick up one of my beater mountain bikes (which runs/brakes/shifts fine) for $100 and save yourself $400 for beer.

tgill 05-31-2017 06:11 PM

Let me jump on this bandwagon! I also have a Devinci hybrid I have been looking to sell, but have been lazy to do so.. (Well living in another country for the majority of the last two years kinda puts this shit on hold.) Kappa

I'm 6'2" so its a pretty large frame. It's not as nice as that Trek, but tbh it's pretty mint.

https://www.bicyclebluebook.com/Sear...54&model=56589

IIRC Before it stopped being used I put some new brake pads and tyres, prob like 300km wear on them. The black paint on the rims is beat up from sitting on those ceiling type hooks in my garage for the last three years, but other than that.

I'll also throw in some mint SKS front and rear mud guards, a decent ulock, a usb rear light, I might even have some spare tubes you can have. I have a lot of random shit I don't need, so if it fits on the bike you can take it lol. LOL

$140! dust collector sale! :nyan:

This goes for anyone on RS! I'm not really motivated to sell it, but if it's RS its going to be a lot less hassle.

That section between Hornby and Burrard is a goddamn death trap! I don't understand why the protected bike lane ends before Hornby...

Any BMX riders here?

Looking at getting back into it after many, MANY years lol.

Any decent BMX shops, or bike shops that are familiar with them, that can help a newb out?

Obviously craigs is an option, but don't mind getting new as long as it isn't ridiculous lol

The big BMX shop around these parts is 3Ride in North Van. https://www.3ride.com/v2/

Ride On in PoCo also has a decent BMX selection.
