Well i signed up for the FV fondo. See you guys out there. Package pick up thursday around yaletown if anyone wants to go for a cruise. I won't be out too long though.
Just got back from doing the stanley park loops. First time riding with clips after spending the past 2 nights getting the hang of it. Didn't fall on the road compared to the many times i fell the past 2 nights lol.
How many of you guys use a bike computer? I'm thinking of getting one but i'm not sure which one to get. My BIL has one as well as most of the people he rides with and it seems pretty useful knowing what your speed is as well as your cadence. I'm only using Strava right now but I never know what my speeds are until after the fact.
Currently considering getting the Wahoo Elemnt bolt or the Gramin 520.
get garmin 520 for 2 reasons.
1) NOT a touch screen (drains battery) When you finish a fondo 6-10 hrs, my battery is still at 30%, touch screen Garmin, 10%
2) when you're doing winter riding, your gloves won't work. Enough said.
Lastly, why do you want a computer? You should get one for 1 thing specifically, watts. If you're following people; speed and cadence doesn't give you a good estimate on how to keep a pace line. You need a power meter (which is give or take 500 dollars) just FYI.

100% agree. IMO the best cycling investment is a power meter
^ FYI, keep in mind, you need to be riding at a certain level. Not saying you have to be a pro;
-you're probably involved / passionate with cycling; with a Strava app
-invested with clip in shoes
-riding with a group of friends / group a) where you would pace line b) longer than 50km type group ride and wanting to keep up or not tank after a crazy climb
If you're not hitting those 3 things at the top, then you can still get by without one.

I got used to garmin so I'll stick with the compact design. It works with essentially every connectivity option that has to do with measuring outputs. Video shows 820 but the 520 is the same body dimensions but with a few missing non essential features (like wifi and real time routing and touch screen).
Stay away from anything touchscreen as tactile buttons will never be matched in terms of feedback and responsiveness. Edge 820 is borderline unusable while riding and concentrating on what's ahead.
If you don't care about the map, the edge 25 is a nice unit that has all the essential metrics and connectivity you'll need like the 520.
I believe a majority of us on RS have the Garmin 520 and nobody has reported any issues.
Except for ZN6. He has the worst luck when it comes to anything Garmin.
I ended up changing my mind after calling La Bicicletta lol. Was kind of hoping to check them both out and seeing which stores had em in stock.
The guy on the phone said they won't get the Elemnt Bolt until August but when I asked him if he'd get that or the 520, he recommended getting the Elemnt. Mostly because of the software and how easy it is to use.

can RS sponsor some RS team kit? I have like 10 skeleton jerseys and i'm getting kinda tired of wearing the look all the time. although they are super comfy and light.
