pfft. not vintage enough. I still got a 80286 with 5.25" drive that outputs CGA graphics for mapping. 12" CRT monitor. Will need a pannier at the back and a monitor mount up front.

Sram Force 1 is so sexy. Wish they made a Red 1.

bcrdukes 07-20-2017 03:57 PM

I wonder why they went with a Specialized-branded crankset as opposed to a full SRAM Force group.

ForbiddenX 07-20-2017 11:01 PM

Did the Spanish Banks Descent tonight. Def thought that was worth the climb there (although went along 8th -> 16th and around UBC)! What a thrill going down that, probably the fastest I've ever gone on a bike lol. 60km/h was my top speed. Was a little later in the evening so no cars really.

Did Trimble St to get back on the route home after...... that was not fun at all. I half considered just walking because the HS girls walking the sidewalk were going faster than me LOL. BIL advised just to take it zig zag which made it a lot easier but still...

Any recommendations for bike locks? Just for locking up my commuter and my wife's bike on rides.

We'd only be using the lock once a week at most.

Looks steeper and longer lol, I'll give it a go next time I do UBC :P.

From what I've read the Kryptonite Evolution Mini-7 is one of the best locks you can get. I was highly considering this one to lock up my bike in the bike rooms, but I've ended up just bringing it up into the condo.

My wife uses this for her commuter https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 as she's not too worried about it getting stolen.

there's really only one steep part, the rest is pretty manageable :fullofwin:

Big hills, I just get into the drops for leverage and get off my saddle and start churning those legs. Hills to me are much easier if I spread a bit of the work to my upper body as well when I can pull on the drops to help my legs on the downward sweep of the crank. Oak between 4th and broadway is probably the worst on a fixed gear but the feeling you get after you climb that short hill is freakin' awesome. The very worst part is having to stop for stop signs and the amount of traffic that goes up and down along that street is stupidly insane. I dunno why people choose those small streets to try and cut through traffic.

Good on you for not getting off your bike to push.

Will give that a try next time I'm doing some climbs.

I drive down that hill everyday and I can't even imagine biking up it. It's so steep my legs would hate me by the end of it LOL. Will definitely give it a try when I feel like I've built up my legs enough :P.

Finished the RaphaRising on strava challenge tonight after a couple laps around the stanley loop w/ the prospect point climb. I'm hoping I can do that climb < 4:30, currently at a 5:35 PR.

ZN6 07-21-2017 10:50 PM

All about technique and body positioning to flatten those hills. Leg strength plays a big role but not all of it. Where you place your hands on your bars will dictate how much leg fatigue you'll have by the end of a climb.

Let me know next time you wanna go for a spin. I rode with tomato a few days ago and it was fun. Cranking out the mileage on a fixed gear over the years really forces you to learn better techniques when you only have one gear to mash on with no coasting.

ForbiddenX 07-22-2017 09:58 AM

I have my bike fitting on Monday and I'm free to ride on Tuesday or Wednesday!

ZN6 07-23-2017 01:00 PM

To the person I crossed wheels with, if you are on here, I am sorry. I was the blue giant douchebag :(

tomatogunk 07-23-2017 01:21 PM

how'd the rest of the fondo riders do? I finished in a little under 5 thanks to the Pender boys hauling my ass

6793026 07-23-2017 02:11 PM

I just finished. I did 5:31. No way was I able to keep up with the Pender dudes but i did catch a few amazing trains and it was totally awesome.

As to the event, pretty good I gotta say. Really good setup, food, drinks etc.

ZN6 07-23-2017 02:21 PM

Lol tomato and I caught a crossing train. 4:49 almost on the minute. Gassed out. Should have carried more than one s.all energy gel

Would anybody be interested in doing Phil Gaimon's Cookie Fondo on October 15 in Malibu, CA?

Phil's Cookie Fondo

Due to professional obligations, I wont' be able to attend the event so I'm hoping one of you can take over the registration. Looking to re-coup my fee of $120CAD. I registered for the Chocolate Chip Ride @ 86 miles. Current fee for the Chocolate Chip Ride is $159USD + fees. Thanks in advance!

Anyone can refer a good place for a bike wash and tune-up?

I just bought a bike second-hand and it can use some TLC. I'd prefer a shop do it simply because I don't have the space (live in a condo) nor a stand to properly wash and lube and tune my own bike.
