Going through a phase right now with road bikes, I’ve been riding around Vancouver every week for an hour, averaging 20km just on the bike routes (arbutus, Cambie, 37, 59) on a Costco road bike. Kind of interested in the RBC Gran Fondo, Medio version. How should I train for this since it’s in a month, and am I crazy?

errrrrrrrr you not serious right?
Baker is a 145 km ride (sumas to Baker), last time I checked Cypress was ~14km, it's 2186 m of elevation (Baker) which is not bad but that 145km distance it not at all easy for a lot of people.

My buddy have been riding on a costco bike for months, it's fun.

Start 20km and up it to 30,40,50,60 until you hit 100km.

Also, you should start riding from wherever you are at to Cypress mountain at least twice a week. RBC is fun, a lot of people, and very safe (compared to doing it yourself to whistler). Atmosphere is great and support is amazing. Last year was the WORSE yr to ride just due to constant down pour.

Please complain about it being expensive blah blah blah, well, so is listening to a CD versus a concert.

I was just referencing the actual climb up to Baker...

And factor ~25KM of your total trip is descending as well.

Do you even ride?

whitev70r 08-13-2018 01:24 PM

Interesting story, I was always told by clubs and ride events that it's OK to ride 2 side-by-side but apparently, it's not legal.

“I know it is common that cyclists do ride two abreast, but the club rules don’t supersede what the law states,” said RCMP Cpl. James Stanviloff.

Are you going?

Just do it!
Well, I'm going, but not riding. Driving the sag wagon for my team.

This is a problem, was driving into Deep Cove the other day. There were a few groups that were riding side by side, and since the road is single lane it was difficult to pass and still leave them with space. Worst yet there were 2 groups that were riding 3 wide taking up the entire lane.

Before you say it was to pass each other they weren't, I tailed them for a few minutes and they were just causally riding with each other.

Hydraulic groupset

Anyone have any other tips on getting a good price on a new hydraulic groupset? Right now the best price I found is 1100 from wiggle and or probikekit but unsure if I’m just gonna run into endless duty’s.

If you're 6ft tall, good deal, assuming it isn't hot.

Sucks for Gran Fondo Whistler riders, that's 2 years in a row of rain.

6793026 09-08-2018 07:00 PM

this yr wasn't that bad. Last yr was retarded. This yr, it did stop and it poured for 1/2 hr and then stopped. My buddies were on the podium this yr.

A bit of rain at the beginning, but wasn't too bad. Was happy it stopped though.
I helped quite a few people with flats on the way...well, guess I had to, since I was a Ride Marshal. Alex was the overall winner from my club, on loan to Pender. 3:14:39!

Why didn't hewdog field their own team this year?

Because not enough members. Some are injured. Some have gone home (not local). And their season is winding down.

Good move. Not much power to measure when you don't ride anymore.

Anyone still riding? (CX perhaps?)
Or anyone want to get some training in at the studio (Hewdog) ?
There is a special next week, only $10 for drop-ins. Hit me up for more info if interested.

6793026 09-28-2018 07:24 AM

There is a fund raiser tomorrow (Ride for Refuge) 50km in Richmond.

Anyone working on their winter projects?
Coming up on the last week of inventory clearout at The Bike Doctor's Retirement sale. Yes, no high end parts, but perhaps you're looking for tools, lube, etc.
Also, Ace Cycles in Kits is closing out soon, maybe some deals to be had there.
And tonight is MEC Club Night, so 10% off regular priced items, from 7pm-9pm.
