Feet were okay. The Northwave shoes are a hell of a lot better than my entry-level Sidi Nevada's.

Alright, if anyone's looking for an inexpensive pair of road shoes, and you're a 40.5 (US 7.5-8), these Bontrager RL's might fit the bill..... the same ones I posted earlier, on the trekbikes.com website, are even cheaper now! $44.00 shipped to Pt. Roberts! I could not resist and ordered.

I was aiming for $900

$115 over budget isn't so bad. As with all projects on stuff we love, we naturally tend to go over. A 12/13% deviation is pretty good! :D

Im building up a norco fluid in the offseason right now, found some killer deals. Should be well under $1k when all is said and done.

My road bike i built up the past summer ended up being about 30% over budget, waited a long time deciding on wheels starting with a set of budget entry level wheels and ended up deciding on some higher end wheels that cost almost triple

^Its easy to justify spending that extra little bit for something better.

I could of cheeped out on the forks but I wanted a lockout (which I have yet to use anyways :rolleyes:)

hopefully this year i can control my bike spending. whenever i itch to get something knew i just need to remind myself of my buddies who ride bikes a generation older than mine that can still drop me like a brick.

when do you guys think we'll get "comfortable" riding weather? last year i remember trying to ride in early march and still found it super cold!

So i need a bit of guidance on this. My buddy and I are finishing putting his caad9 back together from new parts.

Everthing is dialed in. shifts good front and back. limits are set.

The problem is that the upper guide pulley on the rear derailleur is sitting / positioned too high and is pushing into the cassette.

I think we may have measured the chain wrong?

b-tension screw is all the way in, no more room to adjust, it seems wrong.

How do you measure the chain length and are you using a powerlink?

Assuming you are using powerlink, one of the simplest, best technique and quickest way to measure chain link is to thread the chain onto the large/large combination, without running it through the rear derailer, not including the powerlink, you should have a half link to one link overlap (but not more). That should be the right length.

I'm no expert but maybe using a 8 or 7 speed derailleur on a 9 speed cassette?

Chain length shouldn't affect the upper pulley riding on the cog.

Have you tried backing the B-tension screw out and see if it improves? I'm not certain turning the screw which way will set the pulley away from cassette. Did he switch to a new cassette with a larger low gear? The second pic everything looks pretty good, your first pic seems like it is a bit close.

We used all new parts that were from the same group. No changes in cassette ratio.

We're gonna double check the chain length tonight. From googling the issue some have posted a possible problem with chain length being too long


So in other news, I picked this up last night.

It's a Vitus 979. Lugged aluminum bonded frame. From the 80's unsure of exact year.

The previous owner said he's the second owner. This bike is in excellent condition. No corrosion. No large scratches. Shimano 600 gruppo. Nothing is worn out. Tires need replacing tho.

Gonna put in some elbow grease when it's a bit drier out to make it shine lol

There is one minor issue with the rear derailluer skipping down a gear in the mid range. Something inside the shifter might be worn out.

Other than that its a beauty to ride.

Went for a group ride along Barnet Highway this morning. Covered in rain, mud, dirt. Think I wore down my new brakes, in only 3 rides. :ahwow:
I don't think anyone had any fun today, all covered in muck. What's worse is, I came home to wash my "new" Cannondale rain jacket according to the washing instructions, and all the reflective letters washed off! LAME. Going to have to give them a call now.
