After allot of searching and sale shopping, I finally committed on a bicycle. Should be here within 10 days. A teaser pic for now: http://www.bike24.com/i/p/9/5/39959_01_d.jpg |
:sweetjesus: |
Caadx ultegra? That'll be a sweet all around bike to commute on and do rides as well! How much? You're probably putting on a rack? I'd recommend an Axiom streamliner rack. They are thin and look great |
Yeah ended up with the CaadX Ultegra 56cm. It has everything I wanted with a bicycle. Too much $$$ I threw the budget out the window on this one. http://www.trianglecafe.ca/forums/im...ies/baller.gif Rack will be coming eventually. Definitely going for a minimalist style one. |
Hehe Spend as much as u can on the bike and worry about the rest later! 56cm? I didn't realize you we're that tall lol [edit] once ur all set we should do some rides that include some light trails :D |
I'm in! Maybe I'll be able to keep up with you guys now.... well almost I thought I was a 54cm but John at Pacific Multisport fitted me, did some calculations and ended up with a 56.2cm as optimal frame size. Something to do with arm length, leg length and flexibility. He said if I was actually CX racing he would suggest a 54cm but since I'm not, a 56cm is best. |
OTG: Damn! Those are some sick colours on that CAADX! Love it! Lets see a full size pic! |
Longest ride yet this morning. I'd say not bad for just starting this week lol. I also modified my shoes because my feet were freezing every ride. They help, but I need more tape :p Once around Stanley park following the road, then 3 times around UBC. |
Anyone have any suggestions for routes without intersections/lights? I'm loving the UBC run because of this. I was thinking maybe a trip out to Lions Bay next week. Anyone ever done it? I think i've only driven out there once or twice, I don't remember how the road is. |
The only other place I can think of is...Richmond? |
https://www.strava.com/rides/43645453 I just completed the most grueling ride I've ever done. Kits to Whycliff Park, up Cypress Mountain and back. 85kms, almost 2000m of climbing. I feel like death Posted via RS Mobile |

^ haha, that is the ghetto way to seal off the vents in the shoes! Think you might want to invest in a pair of wool socks and some shoe covers, or at least toe covers. |

went to a local elementary school to just practice clipping in and out. and yes, it happened, i fell..twice. lol bailed right on my driveway, gfg, should have clipped in on a flat surface cuz my driveway is pretty steep. just did laps around the parking lot, imagining an intersection and just practice slowing down and clipping out and balance and stop. second time i stopped and before i put my foot down i lost balance and leaned to the left ( clipped in) and then fell. but towards the end i seemed to get better. to get goin and then clipping in the other foot seemed easier than i thought, its just clipping out and stopping/balance its a work in a progress lol. heres some pics. nothing too major but im a pussy and have a very low tolerance of pain. :okay: http://i.imgur.com/adgVynel.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/9Ok6mbFl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/mOyJwFol.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/OF9FmA4l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/EfH4HlJl.jpg |
I know how it feels! :D |
With time it will be a non event. Guaranteed to fall a few times before you get it. You can also loosen the tension on the pedals which should make it easier to clip in and out. |
Those are classic chainring grease markings :D |
The snow that I found at the top of cypress lol http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/...ps60dbde85.jpg Posted via RS Mobile |
When I was learning to get out of clips, I found it was easiest to imagine lifting your foot up and forward with a very slight heel twist simultaneously. Relying on the heel twist alone was definitely harder to get out. Halfway break from my quick 30k ride today, first ride of the year so my gears were a bit out of tune. Great day still, just a bit crisp. I only have bib shorts, something 3/4 or even full length would have been preferable. Oh well http://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphoto..._6784324_n.jpg |
Went to MEC to look for sunglasses and none of them fit me :fuuuuu: |

thanks everyone for the encouragement and tips! gonna spend another day at the parking lot lol. trying to get it to be natural before i hit the roads and intersections with cars beside it lol. |
SPD? Try the multi-release cleats (SH56), you can pretty much twist in any direction and they release, despite that I've never felt like they would release randomly. Other than that, like others said play with the pedals tension and just get more practice in. |
