Yes, that is normal (unless you're monsters like 604CEFIRO, dat_steve and Alphamale.) :heckno:

Anyone doing the Gran Fondo Whistler this year? Early bird ends March 15th. Last year, I bought my pass on craigslist in August because I wasn't feeling confident I could ride it...

Alphamale 03-11-2013 03:53 PM

So these guys took a liking to my bicycle...

Took a chill ride to Steveston:

Downloaded Strava on my phone today. What a wicked app compared to Sports Tracker.

Today's goal was just to see how fast I could go. Quick Sprint around Stanley Park. I almost died. I bow towards those 30km/h+ guys.

Do you need data on your phone for Strava to work?

I'm using mapmyride which uses my phone's GPS and syncs up when I get a wifi connection. Actually there's no windows phone support for Strava as far as I can tell

Spaceship_coupe 03-11-2013 11:37 PM

Nice update guys! I can't wait to have a day off from work and test out my new cockpit setup and get on this Strava app.

No, you don't need data. I turn off my cell data / 3G on my iPhone while I'm riding and recording.

After I'm done the ride, I turn the data back on, then press finish ride to record and upload the info.

I'm going to try this next time. My battery isn't the best anymore and constantly running kills my battery. .

Anyways my new ride hopefully will be here Friday!! Pumped!!:fullofwin:

Yesterday on the ride home I lost a screw for my cleat. I should of used locktite

hud 91gt 03-12-2013 09:21 AM

^ I lost two. One on each foot. Good thing I have decent balance, because I could not get my foot out coming to a stop! All the screws were loose! Make sure you crank em on there next time.

604CEFIRO 03-12-2013 11:46 AM

Tighten to 5-8Nm for cleats. I usually check mine once every week or two to make sure they're tight.

I've had one bolt fall out before. I almost got stuck in the pedals as the remaining bolt was also loose and the cleat was just shifting around.

Best is to bolt check every week or two

LOL not a good idea!

UFO 03-12-2013 06:12 PM

There's different grades of loctite :)

I've had to drill out cleat screws before because they got rusted in and the 4mm allen head didn't have enough leverage to undo before the head stripped.

I just crank the snot out of the cleat bolts and they are usually good to go. No torque wrench

dat_steve 03-12-2013 10:54 PM

rode behind a dude in a rapha get up on the weekend...never noticed how slick the gear actually looks fit and style wise /nohomo. i'll be investing in some very soon!

604CEFIRO 03-13-2013 10:36 AM

Rapha is a painful addiction to overcome after you score your first piece of kit :D

I've been trying to resist getting a second pair of rapha bibs... I have my eyes set on the pro team version

604CEFIRO 03-13-2013 10:38 AM

I will be doing the fondo this year as well.

I was waiting until the early bird cut off to register, and thanks to azncreationz i scored a $25.00 coupon code from him yesterday!

So on top of the early bird $225 i got $25 off as well.

Just made it official right now and signed up

dat_steve 03-13-2013 03:39 PM

good luck guys! anyone make up goals for the upcoming season?

for me it's: (in no particular order)

-conquer seymour
-triple crown
-squamish...then whistler

then once that's done i guess there's nothing else to do but get faster at them lol

bcrdukes 03-13-2013 03:52 PM

1. Get faster
2. Catch up to Alphamale and 604CEFIRO

604CEFIRO 03-13-2013 04:17 PM

I think for this season I'd like to experience a crit race / ride competitively at something. I don't really care about winning, but i think it would be awesome to learn to ride at a high speed, in a pack etc.

And yup... the usual squamish, grouse, whistler rides.

I already forsee you riding in this year's Tour de Delta and Tour de Gastown.

Conquer Haleakala, Maui - In the mean time, that means all the big hills in the Lower Mainland.

PHATFLIP_14 03-13-2013 08:22 PM

Since, I just got into road biking recently.

I just want to continue to get more saddle time, add more kms, and just keep enjoying riding.

Tackle more local hills, slowly get faster, and maybe even ride with some of you beastly riders here (though I am not in a level with some of you guys here) :ohgodwhy:.

I think at the very end of the day, what's important is that you enjoy cycling, going out there, doing what you have to do and to have fun.

As much as I would like to be as good and as fast as dat_steve, Alphamale and 604CEFIRO, I need to reflect on my personal limitations and then what I can do to be better. And even then, what matters to me the most is having fun on the bike. :)
