Thanks, I am ordering 105 pedals :fullofwin: and DHB bibs :fullofwin::fullofwin:

kayceeee 04-11-2013 12:28 PM

yea thats what i've been reading as well, especially with rival force and red, zero loss, exact acuation and double tap, and i read that the sram hoods are better for people with small hands, which includes me.

just not sure if i should spend money on changing my drivetrain or upgrading wheels.

definately cant do both right now since i just got the bike not long ago lol.

shouldnt be spending any money to begin with anyways lol :okay:

Ch28 04-11-2013 12:29 PM

I picked up the aeron pro bib shorts. Sounds like a way better buy than the Pearl Izumi Attack ones I have now. Saved myself $40 too

The good news is that you will have a spare group set which you can sell or keep for a bike build. I'd buy it off you but...I like SRAM. :D

My personal suggestion - get new wheels and tires first before upgrading your drivetrain.

604CEFIRO 04-11-2013 12:39 PM

I can't comment much on sram since I haven't ridden long enough to compare to shimano

But here's an interesting fact for u sram nut huggers ;)

Of the 18 pro teams in the peleton, only 3 use SRAM groupsets. 4 campy. The remaining 11 teams all use Shimano

dat_steve 04-11-2013 12:40 PM

sram just sounds cooler than shimano..isn't that reason enough? :P

Ch28 04-11-2013 12:41 PM

Are new wheels that big of an improvement?

I have a trek 2.1 so it came with bontrager garbage

Well, I'd liken "improvement" depending on what a person wants. If you want a cushy ride, then perhaps having a light weight wheel with fewer spoke count and does not absorb road shock well could work against you.

If you want to pick up some speed and have a better 'feel' for the road while lightening up the bike, then yes. Mind you, tires play a huge role into the equation.

Riding on my stock wheels and tires was weird for me. It was so smooth and cushy, I was like, "uh wut? Where's the road?"

SRAM is usually up on the podium at the end anyway. Gotta give it to the underdog. :troll:

As for Campy - Good lord. :fuckthatshit:

Edit - 604CEFIRO is right. Only 3 teams this year running SRAM. 2011 was a huge list of SRAM but slowly declining in 2012 and now 2013. http://inrng.com/2013/01/2013-pro-team-bikes/ :fuckthatshit: (The article is a good read and explains SRAM's decline in the peleton.)

604CEFIRO 04-11-2013 12:54 PM

Improvement on...?

New wheels, better shifting groupsets don't guarantee higher performance.

It will definitely aid u, but the higher performance comes from the rider.

I was infatuated with getting new wheels and carbon everything for a while, but got a reality check when I rode with some older guys on shitty equipment and got left behind in their dust trails

It will help to a point. But the gains are minute at best

I guess we are all car guys, so modding shit is like 2nd nature and we all want after market cuz stock is so ghey lol

^
That's pretty much it.

It hurts the most when you see older guys riding their steel bikes from the 80s with down tube shifters owning you on the flats and hills.

:okay:

If you want to mod your bike for the sake of experimenting, go for it. In the end, a 14.9lb bike will not save you from a guy who is more experienced and stronger as a rider riding a 25lb steel bike.

Which one of you guys did this? Fess up! You have a secret admirer! :D

^whew! hey guys just got back from a quick spin around the main street area :troll:

i agree with 604cefiro about the reality check. best upgrade to your bike is the rider! that said, i'll be spending more on gear now...since that's rider related..sorta

bcrdukes 04-11-2013 02:43 PM

Let's not forget the rule for bike ownership.

n +1 :fullofwin:

Can't beat Shimano Acera.

Seriously though I love the looks as I pass riders on ridiculously nice rides on the climbs.

Swapped out the Crappy Innova 35c tires for Vittoria Randonneur Pro's in 32c, so smooth, estimating I gained about 2-3kph on the flats.

604CEFIRO 04-11-2013 02:54 PM

Rapha makes you 10% faster at least and makes the suffering way more chic

since everyone's raving about these conti's

Continental Grand Prix 4000S 700x23 Folding Tire Road Bike

yay or nay?

604CEFIRO 04-11-2013 03:17 PM

I would rather wait 1 week and pay $38.80 per tire on wiggle

Or $86.00 for 2 gp4000s w/ 5 tubes

Search results for gp4000s

you should offer him wiggle pricing

nice. will give them a try after i wear down my current ones

bcrdukes 04-11-2013 03:37 PM

Seems like majority of people are still raving about the Continental GP4000s (not to be confused with the 4000- no "s".)

I'm still waiting for my order to show up so then I'll be able to do a back to back comparison between the GP4000s and my Michelin Pro Race 3 (discontinued and replaced by the Pro Race 4.)
