Specs on those phones? I don't think that they'll only work on WIND and T-Mobile USA. I mean, all of them have GSM, right? So you can 2G it up like it's 2002 on Rogers....oh wait! Rogers is down. :p

I'm going to dig up specs on these versions of these four phones.

!Aznboi128 12-19-2009 01:52 AM

^ looks promising doesn't it?

From WIND's own user manuals:

Huawei U7519 (a.k.a. the T-Mobile Tap)
- Quad-band GSM
- 1700/2100 UMTS/HSPA

Samsung Gravity 2
- Quad-band GSM
- 1700/2100 UMTS/HSPA

RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700
- Quad-band GSM
- 900/1700/2100 UMTS/HSPA

HTC Maple (a.k.a. the T-Mobile Dash 3G)
- Quad-band GSM
- 1700/2100 UMTS/HSPA

The difference is, these phones aren't utterly useless outside their carrier. They will work for anyone who wants to use Wind or T-Mobile, or any other 3G network outside North America. If you don't like it, throw it up on Ebay and you will get a good price for it.

People: When you buy a "$200" phone from Rogers, you aren't paying $200. You are paying closer to $700 over the 3 years.

But the thing is as of now they don't just do sim activations or sell the sim alone..so u got to get their phone if u wanna try em out

Really, you can't just have your own phone? That's a big fucken fail

slammer111 12-19-2009 09:38 AM

^ You *could* technically just swap phones after buying, then flip online. If these phones also work on Rogers/Fido then sure you might lose $20, but it's not that bad.

You have to remember though, most people don't give a crap what phone they use as long as it dials.

Personally, the dealbreaker for me is the fact they have no Nokias in their lineup.

Yep most people are not phone whores.

[QUOTE=+Kardboard
For true global compatibility, we would need:

GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz
UMTS/WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+: 850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100 Mhz

I believe "lol" is an appropriate response here. :p[/QUOTE]

This is even more pathetic than the 2g days and hopefully 4g would be better

Tim Budong 12-24-2009 09:38 AM

Truth be told, Rogers has proven reliability.
Wind Mobile will go down one of the following roads

1. Use unlimited plans as of now to get market share, then screw the late jumpers

2. The technicalities of the word unlimited will screw customers

I will say this, I deal with retail, performance coaching and visual merch for one of the carriers. I asked around if customers are willing to sign contracts.u would be surprised to find that over 75% of the ppl did not mind if the plan they got is worth it.

slammer111 12-24-2009 11:10 AM

^ the key is "worth it". So many people I know get signed into crappy plans. Mind you, most of the time it's their own fault for not doing their homework first.

The other half is that many people are so hell-bent on getting their iPhones that they don't mind paying up the wazoo every month. A couple of my friends are paying almost triple digits for their voice + data. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

SkinnyPupp 12-24-2009 06:20 PM

The fact that you have to do "homework" before you approach one of the carriers just shows how fucked up the system currently is.

Hearsay:

Wind is getting the N900 and the price point is going to be below $500 ($499)

i dunno about that... that'd be cheaper than Amazons $542 USD

unless they aren't going to be getting it until Christmas 2010 ;)

sources? and i wouldn't doubt it, wind supposidly sells their phones at cost, so it should be relatively cheaper than other places?

StylinRed 01-23-2010 09:46 PM

^^ like i said hearsay

but it was on maemo.org forums

in a thread about the n900 in canada, ill try looking it up again l8r

but WIND being able to sell it cheaper than Amazon??

that's like a corner store being able to sell things for less than walmart

FUK when is winding launching here?! all their towers are up.

for those questioning Winds coverage, here's a map of their 'home' zone. It looks like it extends all the way out to Hope and Victoria and Van island as well!

skinnypupp is secretly laughing at us while he enjoys the low rates Hong Kong has to offer.

My friend's on $40 city fido while mine is $45. Ok he signed up when it first came out within a onth for the $40 price, ok no biggy, but he's getting free caller ID while im getting charged so i called in and asked the agent if he can do something for me politely. He simple said no... so i asked how come he's getting it while i cannot as i've been with fido from day 1 as well, he said they treat every account differently, ok... I then asked if i can speak with retentions, the prick then completely changes his tone and started rudely accusing me saying how i know the 'internal' word for the department to keep customers and i am 'threatening' to cancel just because my friend is getting a better deal. I said no, there's a better deal and i wanted to see if i can get it. I felt like i was in a court room for christ sake being interrogated by a judge for murdering someone. I get told that he'll go have a chat with his colleagues in that department to see if they want to take my call, he puts me on hold and 10 mins later comes back to tell me they dont want to take my call and basically told me to fuk off without the fuk word. What a fuking cocksucker. I didnt even call in to bitch, even asked politely.

here is what u should say. U should let him know you work in a call center and you know their so call "cahtting with other detp" is just putting you on hold while they go do their own thing. Ask to speak to a supervisor and don't let them bully you. Let them know that you know there have to be a supervisor on the job and he will take your call right away. Get his name(full and last name) and let him know if he doesn't do what you requested you will complain about him(make a big fuzz too). Most of the time that will do the trick.

Remember CSR don't want to do anything for customer becasue the more extra stuff they have to do, means more work for them so you as a customer have to push push push. Also have to manually recored the call (ask them to record the call in the beginning). That way they can't be mad or be mean at u coz it is being recorded.

J____ 05-19-2010 10:49 PM

rk604 05-22-2010 01:10 PM

Sim only activations are available, as i was told in my training. Although we cant officially give support for the phones customers bring in, we'd be more than happy to help you set up your compatible handset on our network.

As of now, sim activations for online will be coming soon. Best bet is to come in in stores. Sorry but i am not allowed to disclose any information on store locations, but feel free to follow WIND on faceboook/twitter for latest updates
