I thought they'd want to launch in Vancouver first, to get a share of the olympic tourists?

TheStig 12-11-2009 08:04 AM

Have they mentioned any plans/pricing yet?

How the WIND Mobile launch sank the Big 3 stock prices

By Rob Avison ⋅ December 11, 2009 ⋅ Post a comment
With the news from this morning that Globalive will be launching as early as next week, the big 3 (Rogers, Bell and TELUS) did not fare so well on the TSX today. I’m no stock trader but seeing the charts below only show a down cycle and that cannot be good.
All of them went south with these final numbers at the end of trading:
Rogers: Last Price of $31.05 or down 6.95%
Bell: Last Price of $27.35 or down 3.76%
TELUS: Last Price of $32.90 or down 2.32%
We reached out to Rogers, Bell and TELUS. Each organizations Spokesperson states the following:
Bell: “It’s disappointing as we think Globalive quite clearly does not meet the requirements for Canadian control. We will be taking a close look at the reasoning behind this decision.”
Rogers: “We believe competition is good for Canadian consumers. We’ve always thrived in a competitive environment and we’re ready to meet the competition head on.”
TELUS: Michael Hennessy, TELUS senior vice-president of Regulatory and Government Affairs stated “We are disappointed with Cabinet’s decision to give one competitor a unique advantage, after bidders that spent $4 billion in the last auction were explicitly told that the rules prohibited foreign ownership and control. This decision has implications extending well beyond the telecommunications industry, given it creates a precedent on what constitutes compliance with foreign control restrictions.”

It's not Rogers, TELUS, or Bell.

StylinRed 12-11-2009 05:50 PM

those plans seem pretty good imo

like that canada wide calling and $20 north america long distance

wait... that long distance is an addon...

so couldnt i just get the $15a month plan and add-on the $20 long distance = better than the $45 plan?

kayceeee 12-11-2009 06:16 PM

^^ not necessarily as they might still charge u for airtime but not for long distance so u'll still need to get a bigger airtime package..

windchaser 12-11-2009 07:49 PM

Always Shout: $45 per month
Unlimited Canada-wide calling
Unlimited incoming /outgoing text messages
Voicemail

does that mean unlinted calling like good old city fido but only better ? it has unlimited text message with voicemail as well.

xPhuong 12-11-2009 08:00 PM

I'm pretty sure that's what it's saying.

bigassbooger 12-11-2009 08:11 PM

i feel like i just got kicked in the nuts signing a 3 year plan with fido

Manic! 12-11-2009 08:11 PM

$80 for unlimited everyting including Data and tethering seems pretty hot to me and no Saf or 911 charges.

LOL

Well considering most of the investors are from egypt they have alot of money to be able to start the business and with all the canadians who will no doubtedly transfer to WIND they'll still be making money from all the 45$ plans!

most of these look like add-ons that the regular carriers have.

eg. TELUS Nationwide $30(covers all LD in CAN) + Package 15(CID & Unlimited SMS) = Always Shout: $45 per month???

eg. TELUS RIM Social Networking $15(unlimited email, facebook, myspace, yahoo/msn/bbm) = Social BlackBerry: $10 per month(Unlimited instant messaging, Facebook and MySpace.)???

we need more clarifcations on these plans or bundles. it just sounds way too cheap for pay $45/mo to have unlimited talk within CAN + unlimited text on top.

yeah, or maybe they wont make any money and then get bought out by the big 3......just like fido and virgin.

bui95 12-11-2009 10:40 PM

wonder where their call center is located? probably overseas.

cctw 12-12-2009 12:46 AM

now if only they would match the $30 in credits i'm getting from rogers it would come out to $50 per month unlimited everything which is SWEET
