so i'm good anytime before feb11 than? there is no more construction on the sea2sky any more right? I checked out the cams and am aware of the icy condition but just wondering if i should tape up my car to prevent rock chips. My frd went up few month back when there was still construction going on and he came back with a hood and bumper that looks like it went to iraq and back.

I drove up tuesday night at around 9pm in crazy rain and fog and there were guys doing 130km/h uphill and around corners like it was nothing

Visibility was next to zero and they were booking it like it was a dry summer day

I am surprised there were no accidents

If you get into an accident, ICBC will bend you over backwards and continually fuck you for it.

You can get to whistler without snow tires, but being as you're obviously questioning yourself as a driver to get to whistler, then yes, you need snow tires.

You need snow tires, with the mountain snowflake rating, every year from October 1st to April 1st regardless of conditions.

whats the www.@#$%. Gov.bc.ca link for the mandatory note on winter tires to whistler.

I got no winters, went once already without it. I dont speed, i brake early, and i take my time. Also have a set of chains on the trunk.

roads on sea to sky is fairly clear with constant salt and plowing.

Don't want to break the law if they did implement it somewhere. I checked with tourism whistler site and found nothing but " winter tires are recommended between oct1 -april 1st"....

Posting at 3am results in typos, the actual requirement is October 1st to April 30th.

Ive got snow tires on my tacoma but I still carry chains knowing I will most likely never need them. Mostly to make sure that the RCMP wont turn me around at a check. I figure if the signs say carry chains they could turn you around, even with a 4x4 and 4 snowtires if you didnt have chains

Yes they have roadchecks. Last weekend when it was heavy snowing they had a tire check somewhere between Squamish and Whistler northbound, nothing southbound though...

Oh ya, stopping's a different story... What I've sort of come to see is if you have it in 4x4 it's almost better to keep the power on sometimes to keep control. Sort of like on a seadoo

if you start to slide ya power is a good thing. I dont like to get to that point though. People behind me probably think my lights are out because I'll just gear down and let the motor slow me down. My truck doesnt have abs so if I lock my tires even for a second the truck will stall. Cant do to much when that happens

Are M + S tires ok (by ICBC requirements + roadcheck requirements)? That's all I've got and I plan on going up early next week for a few days of drunken skiing.

Btw, Is it just me or are there way too many douchebags in giant lifted chevy's trying to race you?

m+s tires are not ok at a road check. You have to have the snowflake stamp on the sidewall for it to be considered a winter tire.

as for the lifted chevys, you gotta realize that to them you are the douche bag who is not prepared for the weather driving around without winter tires getting in their way.

I'll have to double check if I got the snowflake, if not I have a set of chains but I doubt they'd want me running around on the highway with those on.

and it was summer when I last went =|

I've honestly made it around town with my M+S tires just find everytime it's snowed , I will double check for the flake though

if you've got the m+s stamp, you wont have a snowflake stamp. If you have those and chains I think you would be ok at a road check, but dont take my word for it as I dont know for sure.

Your definition of "just fine" will differ greatly from mine Im sure of it. When it snows I try not to drive during the day when there will be a lot of other people on the road. Far too frustrating. Vancouver has a good fleet of plow trucks. Couple years ago Surrey didnt have any roads plowed. Well there was one route that got plowed, from the mayors house to her office. 2 feet of snow on the road will give any fwd or rwd nothing but trouble, snow tires or not

You would need a full set of chains, and I'm not sure they would actually let you through a road check with just chains since you can't really break 30km/p with them. I would call ahead and check.

checking the weather network isnt a bad idea either, if theres nothing but sun in the forcast you probably be ok, until the road freezes and there is black ice everywhere..... damn, all signs point to just get some proper winter tires
