Need help: challenging writeoff value from icbc

Hi guys I was recommended to ask your forum for help in finding out how to challenge my ICBC settlement.

My 1991 240 DL was declared a total loss by ICBC. It had the m47 5-speed transmission, 320k, and was generally in good shape. No rust and maintenance kept up on. They offered me $2100 minus my $300 deductible which I feel is too low.

Is what they offered me in line with what the car is worth? I can't find any 5-speed cars for sale in Vancouver right now. I was hoping to get at least $2000 after my deductible, and my mechanic has told me it is worth more than that. When I was talking to the adjustor they said they took $400 of the value of the car because the average mileage of those cars that age is 250k! I find that hard to accept and I feel like I am being sold short.

Thanks

ICBC doesnt value cars high just because its 5 speed.

It is too late to get a significantly higher value. If you really want to get an "agreed upon value" you need to put the car into collector status.

It is another cautionary tale to those of us who have cherished older cars. Get the car in tip top shape and go through the ICBC hoops, or else you will be given the blackbook value which is basically nothing after an accident.
