Volvo 850 T5 or Acura RSX? Volvo 850 T-5.... Between 97 Volvo 850 T-5 (222 HP, 220 lbft Torque Turbo) and 2002 RSX 5Spd manual, what would you drive for the the same "money"? Both same mileage... both cars have not been abused. I know both owners. The Volvo is actually not that heavy... 3100-3200lbs only and there are numerous youtube videos showing how fast it is (160MPH+, beats many "fast" cars etc etc...some even E36 M3s!????) I'm almost 30 so I think the Volvo may suite my age more while being more sportier than the base. and why? |
Volvo for sure, especially if you have a family. One of my brother's friends was in an accident (high speed) and walked away without a scratch on him and a minor dent on his car. So  for Volvo, I bet Acura can't claim their cars are that safe or well built. |

I'd go for the Volvo simply because I love the T5. |
Get the volvo, it may be spinning the wrong wheels but those 5 cylinders whiteblocks can make some real power if you put your mind to it. Plus, they're comfy. Really safe. Have good room inside them and good trunk space. If you get it and want a little more fun out of it you can just get an ecu reflash and gain a little more. Mind you I love volvo's so I am a little biased haha |
850. The wagon would be nice haha |
if its a 850r... that would be awesome |
Its not a R, its a T5 sedan... though the wagon is versatile, I like the sedan's style better. wow, no takers for the RSX. I'm surprised.... I thought there would be people recommending the RSX cuz its newer and may be more cheaper to maintain. |
I am driving a S60R right now and its a pretty fun car to drive. I would imagine the 850 T5 to be better than the RSX. T5 engine with a RICA PPC stage 2 tune, TME dp and Catback would make some nice power! visit for below links for some mods and things for the Volvo. www.ipdusa.com www.vivaperformance.com www.eurosporttuning.com |
A chipped T5 will outrun many cars from 60-120km/h sprint...as long as you don't drop off the boost lol |
Turbo ftfw |
97's a little old for me... but whatever floats ur boat im no RSX fan either btw so i wouldnt get either ahahh |

850 hands down. Awesome drive out of the box, and if you're willing to drop down some coin on upgrades, it's a full-fledged beast. Mint ones are hard to find; they have a loyal following. |
U gotta get it checked by a shop/technician specialized in Volvo. My dad used to have a 96 or 97' 850T wagon. I think the brakes sucks, hated the automatic transmission, sitting position and engine feels really sluggish especially during summer time. Problems started to come up in 04 or 05 so we ended up trading it for a Subaru Legacy wagon. We used to get about 350km a tank running Chevron 92octane. That's a 70L tank if I remember correctly? I will take the RSX just because it's cheaper to maintain. And probably easier to sell in the future. |
Volvo T5 over the RSX any day. I used to own a T5 when in Asia, good solid car for its day. |
I might be the only one that won't pick the Volvo here. A year ago, I was planning to get a project car to boot and test drove a few 850 Turbo wagons and sedans. Then, I was comparing most german/europeans with these 850 turbo. The driving pleasure is just lacking. It felt okay with straight line speed, but due to the age and mileage of these cars. You'll be looking at thousands of dollars to repair. Headgaskets, tranny, brakes, fuels, etc. would need refresh or repair. Also, volvo aftermarket parts isn't readily available here in Vancouver except a few specialty shops. On the other hand, RSX base model will give you more of a smooth and responsive driving pleasure. The driving pleasure part is more of a personal preference. Hard to put it in wordings, you know ! |
The RSX is a funner car to drive. Cheaper on gas and better to maintain. |
RSX = marketed and built sports car 850 = family sedan There's your driving experience answer my friend. There's enough companies that make volvo stuff, especially for 850's. It's just all online. And a 70L tank getting 350km is fucking garbage, something was wrong with your car. I get 400-500 in my 242 and I think i've got a 55-60L tank |
RSX is not a sports car...sorry. especially not a base and I drive one. To OP, these are 2 different cars that can't really be compared. Volvo's obviously going to be more expensive to maintain...but im sure insurance is way cheaper. |

volvo is quicker, if you're looking for a 4 door family car get that. if you like 2 door sports coupes, rsx. totally diff cars in every way. |
