doing a upgrade thru rogers. i can get the curve 8900 for 150 after rebate or bold 9000 for 100 after rebate. my pricing isn't great because i just upgraded like 4 months ago.

im pretty much wondering if there is any major reason to get the bold over the curve? im only getting the 15 data plan pin/unlim emails, rest of the time going to use wifi if need be.

so far i know the curve has 3.2mp cam w/autofocus and no 3g, whereas bold is 2mp and 3g. anything else different?

main reason im leaning towards curve is the smaller size.

I have had the 8900 for a year now and really like it. I honestly haven't had any issues with it at all and I find the size perfect.

i've had both, main thing i hated about the 8900 was the keypad. everything else about it is better, smaller, better battery life because it runs on edge only..

thanks for the input guys.

3G seems to be the only major pro with the bold. i don't think i'll use the net enough to really notice a difference between 3g/edge. the extra battery life will be more useful to me as well.

i will probably order the 8900.

yea i did, i believe it is 300 after rebate, or 300 with rebate i forget. its my first BB so i didn't want to jump into the 9700. i figured the 8900/9000 would be a good place to start.

Here are the problems I occured when I owned the 9000

-Phone not lasting more than a 24 hours period
-Would have to do a battery pull everyday in order to keep the phone running smoothly
-If you do become an excessive user, your trackball can pre-maturely wear out BUT just as long as the phone is still stock and from the original carrier you can bring it in for warranty just for that.

What warranty comes with the phone? N for how long?

guessing bold would be worse battery wise, due to 3G.

1 year warranty. phone rogers, they troubleshoot ur problem, if it not resolved during that phonecall they ship u out a new phone and u send the old one back.

dude, if you're cheap just say so. its not like you're moving from a civic to a maserati lol. its a cell phone, plus its a berry, the OS is the same across all phones.

nothing to do with cheap. its the fact that im pretty picky about my phones. there is a chance i may say fuck it, don't like it, paperweight. i tried to like the pearl years ago and it just did not happen.

if price was a issue i would have just said i don't want to drop 300 on a phone... 300 really is not much these days anyways.

i know it was a bad example and i dont care. just get the bold 9700, it's rim's flagship device, you cant go wrong with the new bold, everything about it is better. also, what are you looking for from the device? lol sorry about the questions, i have kind of a knack for these things and like helping people figure out what kind of device would suit them the best.

just basic phone use, text, pin, check email. thats another reason why i don't really need the 9700 i think. my needs are minimal. comparing specs the 8900 seems to have everything the 9700 has minus 3g/track pad. i am only getting the 15.00 data plan from rogers so 3g is not a issue to me, rest of the time wifi.

since i don't need 3g the improved battery life on a edge device would be more beneficial also.

but with the new bold 9700, it is fast performance with the battery life of a device on edge. it is the best of both worlds!
9700 also has the trackpad, which both the 8900 and 9000 don't have.
the trackpad is less likely to fail since dust won't be able to get stuck in there...
and also os 5.0 is definitely a solid operating system. i like how the text messages look like bbm and they're threaded.
and honestly, if you were to upgrade, i'd suggesting upgrading to the latest, because everybody knows you never buy yesterday's technology

went to check out the curve/bold in person today, they didn't have the 9700 so i could not look at that. i actually kind of liked the looks of the 9000 over the 8900, size difference was not a big deal to me.

9700 does sound good also. trackball on the bb i have no experience with so no idea if it will fail or what. the good thing is the 1 year warranty, besides do people really keep phones longer than a year these days?

also long term durability on the trackpad is still unknown. i did see the trackpad on the 8520 though and it seemed nice.

i will most likely go and check out the 9700 in person and make my decision.

also in terms of yesterdays technology i was told by someone at the store that the 9700 is just the 9000 essentially repackaged, plus trackpad/better cam, is this true? there is about a 200 diff in price between the two on upgrade(for me at least)

really? my 8900's battery life is garbage. it'll probably start dying by the end of the day. all i do is text, i rarely even talk on the phone for more than 2-3 minutes.

i have not owned either phone so i can't comment on the actual battery life but the 8900 is definitely better than the bold due to no 3G. Are you leaving bluetooth constantly on your phone, because that will effect your battery life bigtime. conditioning your battery when new helps too.

i used to do the same and my battery would last a few days easy. sounds as if your battery shit the bed.

biggest flaw with bb's with the trackball, is the trackball itself. why would you be worried about the durability of the trackpad if you aren't going to keep the phone longer than a year anyways? the way i see it, it doesn't have any physical moving parts, its an optical unit, so the only way it could get ruined is from water damage. also, the 8520 is the biggest POS that rim has ever made, its just crap in all aspects other then the fact it has a trackpad. the person that told you the 9700 is a repackaged 9000 is a complete idiot, yes the OS is the same, but the 9700 has a quicker processor and more on device memory.
