Starting off the New Year:: 7 day cleansing

After a numerous amount of buffets, junk and party food, sweets and stuff, i thought it would be a good idea to do a 'cleanse' before i restart my regular diet.

Got the Natural Factors 7 day kit and just started it today. God damn.....that powder mixed with just plain water tastes like BILE!!!

Anyways, i was just wondering if anyone can share some experiences while going through this....whether its a 7 day, 2 day, herbal, etc.

Thanks....

Cleanses can be beneficial, but there is no need to buy whacky concoctions that taste like bile. A simple, useful cleanse can be as easy as eliminating all coffee, alcohol, and carbs from your diet for a week. You will feel amazing, and will lose actual weight (not just water weight). Slowly introduce the carbs back (if you wish) over the next 3 weeks, and you will feel better than before, food will taste better, and you will be 10 lbs or so lighter (again, actual fat loss).

Top Tip: Coconut milk tastes great, fill you up, and is very good for you. So drink a lot if you are fasting

Thanks for the feedback Pupp. Carbs aren't really in my diet that much....i can't drink alcohol, and coffee i can do without for a week.

But just doing research over the internet.....its amazing how much inconsistency there is when doing a natural cleanse. One site will say stay completely away from dairy completely, and another will say to include something like yogurt as part of your daily thing.

So i thought i would go to the guys in the Richmond Popeyes. I think i have gained enough trust in the guy to hear what he has to say about cleanses....which ones are bull and which ones are credible. So, i went with what he recommended and now i am sticking to the meal plan thats included.

But damn....the woman and the family is going for an Alaskan King Crab dinner tomorrow, and i won't be included in this evening.

And yes, Crayon....i'll keep you up to date.

Even if you eat low carbs, going to NO carbs for a week will make a difference. And yes, yogurt is definitely good to have, for the beneficial bacteria. Just make sure it's full fat yogurt with no added sugar.

Just keep in mind that doing a cleanse doesn't mean starving yourself. That is a fast, and it is not good for you.

In my first month or so in my weight lost process last year....carbs was completely out of my diet, and still avoided for the most part of my diet. Can't help to have carbs during sushi night. So i am not a stranger to ditching carbs...best advice i've taken, and still sticking with it a year later.

As for yogurt, i eat yogurt on a regular basis, and i will try your suggestion on no sugar/full fat yogurt. However, the meal plan says no dairy, so i will stay away from yogurt for this week....no big deal.

Well, to summarize day 1,......i wasn't really feeling hungry at all. Still bountiful with the recommended snacks and had a wicked dinner based on what was on the meal plan.

Personally I don't agree with buying special products to perform a cleanse.

I think you could achieve the same results by doing what SP suggested. My own take on it would be to supplement with large amounts of fresh vegetable juices (that you make yourself) and fresh fruit.

You'll feel great.

Fruit juice is the absolute worst thing you could intake if you're trying to give your liver a break. Fructose is what causes fat accumulation - the whole point of a detox should be to allow the liver to fully recover, and burn off the excess fat that is around it. You can only do this by completely removing fructose (and other things) from your diet.

Also, the nutrients that are in vegetables are fat soluble - so unless you have some source of dietary fat, you will just piss them out.

Going on a juice/vegetable fast is a terrible, terrible idea.

Like I said, the problem is fatty liver, which most researchers believe is caused by higher than normal fructose intake. It's becoming more common lately - basically, the increased amounts of fructose in our diet (due to the fact that almost all pre-packaged/pre-cooked food has HFCS added to it) is what causes this to be more common.

So unless you eat really well all the time, you probably have a somewhat fatty liver. In that case, a liver cleanse/detox will be beneficial.

But fasting on a juice diet, where you're drinking several glasses a day, will lead to even higher fructose intake than normal. Your liver will not only not have a chance to detox, but could possibly lead to even more fat accumulation than if you were eating normally.

You need some fat. Try adding coconut milk to your diet.

Can you still do a cleanse if you have something like the flu? Or is it dangerous to attempt while you're sick?

For the purpose of fasting, you want coconut milk. For every day drinking, coconut water is all good.
