Chipped by Rocks

I was driving on UBC highway when this truck sped past and flew rocks up against my car and windshield.
I have various chips and was wondering how I can fix the ones which chip right into the bare metal?

Thanks

+1

I have so many that I don't even bother caring anymore... I figure one day it'll get bad enough where I'll actually go and get it repainted. At that point, I might clear bra it!

Touch-up paint from the dealer, or one of those touch-up pens. Unfortunately chips will always be a part of driving.

He's talking about chips into the metal, not just the paint.

slammer111 01-07-2010 01:28 AM

^ You're talking about actual denting of the metal?

I just thought he was talking about chips that took out the primer as well.

Werd. You'll also get a lot of door dings and scratch marks and shit if you park in the city of Richmond often. Those C-Lais don't even know how long their 335i coupe doors are and they just swing them open like there are no cars around. True story... it happened to me when I was inside my car and she just walked off...

JSALES 01-07-2010 01:32 AM

it's inevitable

why didn't you get out and do something?

Sp0r3 01-07-2010 01:36 AM

The only option is to live with the rock chips or get the entire panel repainted. Nothing can buff it out.

lol I confronted her when started walking, and luckily it didn't do any damage (contact point wasn't sharp or anything) when I told her to open the door to match up to the point where she ding'd my door.
That was nothing compared to the time when I literally watched a c-lai parallel park in front of my car and backs her Maxima right into my car...and thought it was her wheel hitting the curb!!!

JSALES 01-07-2010 01:49 AM

haha, i would've made the bitch pay me for touch up paint if it was serious. i hate that feeling when you're sitting in your car and watching someone parallel park there car in front of you and just thinking to yourself "this motherfucker better not hit me"

I'd rather that I be in the car while they attempt to park. lol. I'm usually reciting their license plate and car make and model in my head and ready to open the door and pounce on the bitch. :haha:

make sure u clean & sand the spot thoroughly before applying touch-up paint. Otherwise it will still rust from inside out.

Greenstoner 01-07-2010 12:57 PM

live with it

what you can also do is to try and avoid big trucks while driving.
touch up paint
dont worry too much about it ;)

Just go to your local dealership or shop to ask them to put on one of those black rubber mask for the front bumper that matches your car.

GabAlmighty 01-07-2010 03:35 PM

if you want the guy i used, you can pm me. don't think i'm allowed to post non-sponsors on here. he offered better prices than other places i got quoted for. does pretty good job too. he does the clear bra for regency lexus.

i can also tell you who i've heard horror stories about.

maxxxboost 01-08-2010 12:12 AM

Just use touch up paint to stop those chip spots from rusting.

Your car is meant to be driven, here are things you can do.

1. Clear bra
2. Black mask bra
3. Use masking tape and tape up whole front end *lol*
4. Live with it and just touch it up here and there
5. Don't drive your car

Don't take it too seriously. You'll be more pissed when you get door dings.

If you've got a lot of chips, make an ICBC claim. It will cover a repaint of all the damaged areas as well as replacement of any parts that cannot be repaired (chrome grille, mirror caps etc.) In addition it will cover a new windshield! All you'll have to cover is your comprehensive deductible... and because it's a comprehensive claim, it doesn't affect your safe driving history or your discount structure. :)
