Blackberry Curve 8520

I'm thinking of getting this BB this week, but I'm wondering if there's anything I should be aware of. So far all the reviews I've read have been praising the phone, but some think it's a crap device. Is there something I'm missing about it?

I'm using one right now. I like it. Trackpad got really fast to get used to. No problems with it at all. I like it though :)

Go big or go home :D
bold 9700!

the 8520 is a POS imo... its very cheaply built, doesn't feel as solid as other berries, the resolution on the screen isn't even close to older berries like the bold 9000. i would just get the 9700 or 8900 if you want to keep with the small size. go to future shop and compare live models for your self.

^Agreed. My buddy has one and the build quality is pretty dismal compared to a 8900 or a 9000 even. The phone is very light, battery cover and rubbery housing feels cheap. The screen's res is also pretty lacking. If you want to jump into a decent BB then it isnt a bad phone I mean the trackpad is solid compared to a trackball and the curves signature keyboard makes typing very easy. I myself would try to find an in warranty 8900 for a little more, if not the same price used.

only plus is the trackpad. compared to a 8900 it sucks, 8900 has better cam, better screen. 8520 is using the old shitty screen from 8320 i believe. plus its encased in rubber, looks cheap. get a curve 8900, or bold. im using the bold 9000 and love it.

i dont get why everyone here has a problem with rubber? its a super light BB becuz its plastic and rubber casing and i ve dropped mine numerous times or banged it against the wall at work and it still works flawlessly. The trackpad works amazing compared to the old trackball. Don't get the 8900, if you are gonna spend that kind of money, go get the new bold. If you don't want to spend so much money, the 8520 works amazing. The only downside is it has no gps or 3g. Personally, I don't mind using edge since everything going through my bb is compressed anyways unless i am downloading apps.

the rubber makes it look cheap, in my opinion.

the trackpad is better than the trackball, yes.

8900 is way cheaper than the new bold. 8900 is what 250-300 vs 500 for a 9700. on contract 8900 is 80 bucks vs 199 for the 9700.

right now the 8520 is probably the shittiest bb available, and the cheapest, well next to the pearl flip that is.

screen on 8900 is better, camera is better, oh yeah and 8520 has no gps either.
