text messaging similar to iphone

Hi, I'm a phone noob and need some advice. I've just recently sold my iphone which was my first smartphone. One thing I really loved about it was how the text messaging was handled like an instant messaging conversation. I want to purchase another phone with similar capability since I'm all about text messages. Can someone recommend a phone for me?

thanks for the quick response! I'm not that huge on berries but I will buy one if that's the only other option. Does the Nokia e71 have threaded SMS?

Android phone users have an app for it, if you got the HTC Magic from Rogers for example

Have you used Conversation before Kranky? I want to know how Free-iSMS compares..

Yes I have used Conversation before Free-iSMS. It crashed my phone once in a while(reboot), and the notification does not sync with phone's. So you'd still see the phone's notification even after you read it through Conversation.

That was my experience with it, unless it has been updated for the better.

And I used it about 9 months ago.

I don't think it's been updated, iirc, the latest version was released in 2008. I did have reboot problems before but I've since wiped the phone and also upgraded to the new 400 firmware. It hasn't happened in the past 3 - 4 weeks now?

About the notification, yeah it does sync, you just have to open the text message. I mean going into the person's name, scroll to the new message, and open it into a full screen. The notification will then go away! Not much of a hassle imo since most texts I get span longer than 5 words and I'd have to open it anyways.

EDIT:
I'm going to go give it a try and will report back! =]

It's hands down one of the most organized SMS app available today, for free .

Been using it for a day now. Yeah it's not bad, the only gripe I have about it is that the text notification thing messes up my reminder app just a little bit.

Overall I think I'd use the i-sms app, it's just that I've gotten used to Conversations, but yeah I think overall this is a better app!
