shity eagle talons that have been shit kicked all there life wont we reliable, what car would?
talons lasers and eclipses are very reliable if they have been looked after, its just they are a little to fun to drive, so most have been driven a little to hard.

i used to drive a 4wd 88 subaru GL-10 (which was later renamed the loyale). gutless as hell (non-turbo... engine so small they fit the emergency spare tire on top of it), and it was a total rustbucket even though it was a $$$$$$$$$ car... and this was over 15 years ago. i have no idea what the condition would be like of the few survivors that may still be out there.
i've also had the misfortune of driving a 4wd justy. also very gutless, and the nasty CVT transmission did not help at all. avoid.
but i would still go for what others have already recommended... an awd subaru impreza. try to get the newest pre-02 model possible, preferably with the revised dashboard, and hopefully not the ones with rear drum brakes. be careful with the ej25 engines though... the twincam version was notorious for head gasket issues. transmissions are generally okay (mileage/abuse is more of an issue than design flaws)... the glass tranny reputation were more of a wrx problem.
the subaru legacy is a possibility, preferable the bg/bd models, but at $5000 is going to put you into some bad examples

Eclipse Talon is bad bad bad idea because there's no NA 4WD trim only turbo AWD. And who the hell owns a turbo AWD thing for 15+ years without ripping it? Just don't even go near it it'll break on you.

OEM parts are actually very easy to find for either lhd or rhd gtfours. Aftermarket is quite small compared to other sports cars, but it exists.
