So your wanting to breed for the sake of breeding. Here's a thought ... get the dog fixed. There are already too many dogs looking for homes. If you are truly interested in breeding then talk to the breeder you purchased the dog from and see if they want to use him. This will mean that you will have to get the eyes CERF'd and the Heart checked.

I didnt ask for an opinion I asked for someone to breed my dog with. I've saved 15 dogs over the years and own two adopted ones as well as saved my dashy from bein put down due to back and leg injuries at only 7 months of age. The breeder would have put him down.
I think I've shown enough maturity compasion and fair judgment in my life with animals to earn the right to breed my dog.

That is fine. I just wanted you to also look into the cost. Breeding without testing for genetic health issues is irresponsible. If you have had this done already then your best bet is to contact local breeders. Just remember to make sure that the bitch has had the health testing as well.

What kind of genetic health issues?
I'm assuming a clean bill of health from a vet is good enough is it not? He came from a pair of champion dashies (I have photos and documents for all) that I'd assume have no genetic issues, both owned by the same professional breeder.

For health tests for breeding it would be there heart, eyes, and hips cleared by the vet board. The eye exam has to be done by a optomalogist , the hips is an x-ray that is sent in, the heart exam can be done by your vet and is the easiest (it's just listening to the heart.) Not sure if there are other ones for that breed but those are the main one for most breeds. The Optomalogist can be an expensive visit as they are a specialist. I know the last time I took my shih tzu to have his eyes tested it was $60 just to walk in the door . You can sometimes find clinics being run by breed groups (these are alot cheaper). The x-ray will depend on what your vet charges, plus there is a fee to submit the x-ray. coming from champion lines can mean very little these days depending on the breeding practices of the breeder. If you can get a pedigree looking back to see if there was any health issues, such as eye, allergies, etc is a good thing to do too.

Sorry forgot to add the Canine Bruscellosis which needs to be tested every time before you breed.

that's good to hear you've had the hips OFA'd , that tends to cost alot and most average Joe's don't want to do it. Not sure if Elbows are a concern in the daxie breed but i know that they x-ray them and OFA them for Shih Tzu's and Boston's now.
