I'm good friends with Evangeline Lilly's father. I remember him telling me about the new gig her daughter was going to be in, way back when. At the time, it didn't seem to be a big deal. Amazing how the show caught on and how Nicole had become so famous.
I still remember when we had her on Smallville doing background work, before she got her break Lost, honestly never expected Lost to last this long.
Jimmy Kimmel is doing a Lost special right now with the cast on ch.205, apparently showing the alternate endings.

Spoiler!
I thought they were gonna make the islanders merge with there other selves
say everyone on the island got to the "light" and those @ the church when they open the doors they merge back into 1 and then move on
or as they flew off the island there's another "flash" and all their memories persons etc merge with those @ the church etc and they either get to live their life or have to move on etc
why would they all be @ the church... if there's still a handful of them that are on the island... and another group that flew off the island...
i get the letting go and moving on thing... they're like ghosts who refuse to move on to heaven/hell/whatever (they didn't want to be specific since they were including all religions) and they're in limbo until they all remembered.
but what about those fuckers who are on the island and havent died in the storyline yet and are still kicking it... why in the hell are they there... or if those on the island weren't real either (that wouldnt make sense) then wtf happened next with that
since all the dead islanders were there why wasn't Charles Whitmore there??
why would Hurley be moving on if he's still protecting the island...
Spoiler!
Dude.... are you serious? haha.. The alternate universe didn't exist at ALL. Period. Everything that happened in the alternate universe was just a CREATION to allow them to see each other again and move on. Jack never had a son, he was never married to Juliet, Sawyer was never a cop, etc etc. Everything that happened on the island DID happen. Jack died. Hurley and Ben became #1 and #2 protectors of the island (Hurley and Ben made references to this in the AU, indicating they were successful in doing so in the real timeline). Kate/Claire/Sawyer/Miles/Frank/Richard flew off the island in the plane, but it's open to our interpretation whether or not they actually made it back home. I like to think they did so that Kate could look after Ji Yeon, Claire could finally raise Aaron, and Sawyer could even find and be with his daughter Clementine.
The point of the alternate universe was so that all the Losties could be together again. Sort of like a non-denominational heaven. The alternate universe is not set in a specific time. Like Christian told Jack, everyone dies. You could die on the island, you could die off it. The plane carrying Kate and them could have made it back or they could have crashed into the ocean 10 minutes later. It doesn't matter. The entire point of the alternate universe was so they could find each other after death (hence the timeless aspect of it). Not everyone was in the church because not everyone mattered as much when it came to being part of the bigger picture I guess.
It's super cheesy when you think about it but the more I think about it, the more I've come to accept and even like the idea. Yes, the fans always suspected the show was about purgatory, but everything we saw on the island DID happen. It was only the alternate universe you could consider purgatory. Meh. Either way, I liked the last scene.
P.S. I saw the Kimmel aftershow and kinda relieved and bummed out that the alternate endings were actually spoofs. I guess it made sense since the writers said they always knew how the show was going to end.. wouldn't make sense to write real alternate endings

yeah i get that the alternate reality is just limbo; but that doesnt make sense as to why those who didn't die were there too (especially Hurley and Linus)
edit ohhhhh wait i totally dismissed hurley telling linus "you were a good #2" ok that makes sense now
They all died at the crash on the plane in season 1.
Their sprits stayed on the island because they couldn't get to heaven yet for one reason. They had no heaven. They were all unhappy and alone when they "came" to the island. They needed the island and the people on the island to move to heaven TOGETHER. They made their heaven to pass into. In other words, they used each other to move on and formed their heaven by being happy and accepting of what happened to them.
Jacob= God/Heaven
Man in black= Devil/Hell
Jacob didn't want anyone to leave the island because he knew the "survivors" would need the island to move on to heaven.
The flash sideways:
When on island: way of coming together and being happy and letting go.
When off island: denial, haven't came to realization yet.
The title of the show says it best. LOST. When they all came to the island they were all lost within themselves and lonely. In the series finale, they move on and are no longer lost. Which is why they move on to heaven.
More questions people probably want to know (again I took it off another forum)
Spoiler!
Polar bear on island?
man in black way of trying to get people off island. making the island seem weird and crazy and therefore the "survivors" want to get off. Because the island was used to move on and accept death, thats why jacob didn't want anyone to leave.
How did the man in black become the smoke monster, yet no one else did?
Jack and Desmond were already dead when they went down there. Man in black originally got pushed down there long before anyone else and he was alive at time.
Is this their afterlife? Is it heaven, purgatory, or hell?
purgatory.
What is the island?
Way of accepting death. without the island, the people on the plane were "lost" and unhappy. island was a place to come together and accept death and fianlly be happy.
Who are the other others? (Leaded by the asian man who was drowned...introduced in season 6). Where did they come from?
there was no others. they were all make belief so it was easier to move to afterlife.
What is Daniel Faraday & his mom's connection to the island?
Can be viewed as disiples of god. helped bring them back to island and helped them all go to heaven.
How did Juliet have a flashback of herself dying, while she was alive?
when was this? i dont remember this.
Who is Charles Widmore? What excactly is his connection to the island?
I BELIEVE it is someone who has died and helps the "survivors" move on and unite through obsticales.
How was the island found by the Dharma iniative, if it couldn't be picked up by any satellites when the plane crashed?
Dharma was fake. It was a way of helping survivors unite and work together.
Why do pregnant women die on the island, except for Claire?
because Claire was already dead. she died in crash.
What is the significance of the statue on the island, with the missing foot?
I actually dont know. dont think its significant.
What is the fire pit in the hole of light that needs to be protected? The one that Jack "Plugged" with the rock? Is it Hell?
Hell. Yes.
In season 6, why were there 2 alternate universes on and off the island? Which was real?
When on island: way of accepting death. they are working together to move on to heaven.
when off island: denial of death. havent realized it yet.
How is Hurley in the final scene? Who is protecting the light?
No one. The island was a way to accept death and make friendships and be happy before passing on to heaven. all plane survivors were unhappy and lost before the crash.
Where were Michael, Anna Lucia, Alex, and others in the Final scene?
non existent, they werent on plane so they never died.
Where is Jin & Sun's baby?
Never had it, they died before the island. baby was a symbole of happiness that brought them closer.
Why didn't Ben go into the church at the end? Did he go to hell?
He never died in plane crash, he was already on island.
Did the show ever explain the numbers? (4 8 15 16 23 42). Someone mentioned the Valenzetti equation, can anyone elaborate?
I think its all biblical. I think maybe 4 8 stands for April 8th. Which was easter, which is birth of jesus. other numbers maybe represent a bible verse. havent dugged in to far.

rewatch Christian's scene with Jack and it should help. Jack asked Christian if everyone at the church was dead. Christian replied that everyone dies. Some have died before him (Boone, Shannon, Sayid, Sun, Jin), and some lived long after him (again, left for us to decide.. Perhaps Kate, Claire, Sawyer, Desmond, Penny, Hurley and Ben). The alternate universe is timeless. Could have taken place sooner than later, or could have happened 50 years after the real timeline.

I'm 99% sure that the writers of LOST have stated since the beginning that the Losties were very much alive on the island (The island-being-purgatory theory was the most popular theory at the time). The island was not purgatory. The alternate universe on the other hand, is.
i've only seen seasons 1-4, skipped 5 and 6 almost completely, but i thought it was a great wrap up. explained the island to me. shit finally made sense to me after all these years.
ok i'm not going to bother with spoiler tags since it already aired
the ending was somewhat predictable, but it was great. jack dying with vincent and ending the scene with his eyes closed was the exact reverse of the opening scene in the pilot that aired 6 years back.
the flashback scenes in the finale made me wanted to watch season 1 again ( i didn't get the catch the 2 hour summary prior to)
the way i interpreted it was the flashing sideway is essentially a space for the cast to realize their connections with the island. once the realization occurs, they can finally move on into heaven. it's why christian mentioned everyone dies to jack. i'd think kate/sawyer and those that actually left the island died eventually in their normal lives...where as jack died protecting the island. the only flaw is i thought the candidate (Hurley) would live forever (unless it only applies to Jacob)..then why would he be in the ending scene going to 'heaven'?
i dont remember what happened maybe few episode back, but what made ben linus realized his connections with the island?
edit: lol i'm guessing stylinred didn't watch season 5 and 6 or didn't really pay attention.

so wut happen to richard alpert? he became human again when notice his grey hair?
cause jacob was the one that granted him immortality..but he died..so he becomes mortal again. But you're right the writers left richard to our imaginations i guess..kinda lame.
overall still a great finale..just a little disappointed they could've tried placing this by season 4 when the freight boat was exploding...the whole 'let's flash back and fowards in time to confuse the shit outta people' season (season 5) was not really necessary.

Another person's opinion on another forum pretty much sums up how I feel:
Spoiler!
yeah... faking scientific and logical explanations and then saying "afterlife!"
damn lazy retard writers.
So how was the smoke monster explained? Well, the dark hair kid got tossed into the light and he came out. I know what happened, but explain it logically. It's just made-up bullshit.
And what about the flash-sideways lives. So they're just not real? He really didn't have a son like Locke said to Jack?
Was it just Jack's way of getting closure? I know they're trying to say, "we see jack die on the island but everyone else dies at different times but all meet up here because there is no time here, since it's the afterlife, see, that's why kate says 'i've missed you for so long' alluding to the fact that she survived as Jack looked at the plane get away and lived a nice long life before dying herself and then meeting up with Jack int he place where there's no time."
Still, it's just fancy BS for no logical explanations for shit.
And yes I know how hurley and ben continued to guard the island for years afterwards.
But then again, explain that to us. Guarding the light or the source or whatever? What the hell is that anyway? just more made up crap.
Still, the show was great and directed well and executed nicely but the answers were not there and for writers who touted logical and rational explanations, they really did just fuck us in the ass.
Kinda figured it was purgatory but was hoping that they would come out with something else to amaze me. Decent ending but the flashbacks (esp. the ones with love connections) were excellent.
You guys should stop with the spoilers. Series has ended and if you haven't seen it yet then you deserve to be spoiled by coming into this thread. It's annoying clicking on that button for every post.
The ending was way better than Sapranoes...that was a kick to the nuts type of ending. I watched the ending again, at first i didnt really like it but now I think its the right ending for the show. You cant explain everything, you gotta leave somethings for viewers to decide on their own.
ALL I GOT TO SAY NOW IS....24 SERIES FINALE ON IN LESS THEN 24 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good finale, but I'm still a little annoyed with the ending as I was into the show not just for the characters personal stories, but also from the scientific standpoint. So I would have liked explanations as to what the island exactly was, what risk did it pose to the world and what is the black smoke monster, and other relative questions.
The personal stories are nice and all, made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside seeing everyone back together smiling and happy....
except I didn't see my main man Mr. Eko, that's my favorite character from the show, he had the best story, and he was the biggest badass on the whole fckin island, went face to face with the smoke monster and didn't flinch, went out like a g
But once the fuzzy feelings wore off, I was left with many a question!
The whole devil island concept is very interesting to me, because in my religion we believe, and to us it's fact that the physical manifestation of the devil actually exists on earth somewhere on a hidden island. The being is chained up however and kept secured until the end of times, and then the soul of the devil will inhabit the body and break free from the chains and go on a world wide tour, lol... The island is also protected by a gatekeeper who slays any humans that happen to come across the island. I'm almost sure the creators lifted some aspects of this for the show, too big of a coincidence, too many similarities
