I thought Rogers didn't support UMA calling? In the USA I thought you had to be subscribed to the feature in order for it to work. Correct me if im wrong?

Some of the pearls support UMA on rogers.

I thought it was just a software feature that had to be turned on or off. which rogers has disabled, i think for a $15 per month fee they will turn it on, but i don't think it has anything to do with the network.

I was doing a research on this too, and found that T-Mo version does have UMA enabled and working. Rogers version have UMA embedded within, but disabled. Any other provider version of 9700 doesn't have UMA. It has to be built-in into the firmware which we can't touch (not the same as upgrading OS).

ps. Rogers doesn't have UMA enabled yet in 9700, I think because they are still trying to sort out some kind of problem? it was working fine with the 8xxx series.

No, if you buy T-Mo 9700 you'll be stuck with EDGE speed if you're using rogers.
T-Mo's 9700 works with WIND (1700Mhz) not with Rogers/Fido/Bell/Telus (850/1900Mhz) on the 3G side.
So unless if you don't mind EDGE, then yeah.. T-Mo version is OK.

Ps. in the end, UMA feature can only works if your provider supports it. If Rogers is yet to support UMA on 9700 then it won't work either. I'd say just get the Rogers version, if you're with Rogers that is.

not sure how it works on Roger's end, but for the T-Mo users, they need to have this feature called "BB Feature Enabler", which I assume was something that has to be done on Roger's end. So you might want to try talking with Rogers technical support on it.
Most likely by pushing service book to your handset to allow it to operate under UMA.
If Rogers decided to charge you, then.. maybe you'll just have to live without UMA, or pay for it.
