Car should be OBDII. What code/s did you get?

What does the motor sound like? Have you tried the basic things like checking to make sure everything is on/secure.

Last time you got a tune up on the car?

Did the transmission fall off?

Pull the code and see what it says. Sounds like a misfire to me, if it fell flat on its face after trying to accelerate.

"pull the code" means to use a code reader for the ECU. the check engine light indicates something is wrong and a reader can tell you what the problem is. ie, what code the ECU is trying to tell you.

since you aren't too good with cars, take it to a shop and have them pull the code.

As long as your mechanic is comfortable working on OBDII cars (which I pray for your sake he is), otherwise take it in to Honda. They most likely will charge around the same as your mechanic will, unless you're able to pay your mechanic in cases of beer

They'll plug into your car's computer to find out why your car's check engine light came on. It will give the mechanic a 'code' which will narrow down what the issue(s) are.

Another thing you can do, is to disconnect the battery for 10min, which should get rid of the check engine light. However, if there is an actual problem, the light will come back on. Best to get it checked out as soon as you get a chance.

It is very easy to run diagnostics on your own car, especially since it is OBDII.

http://www.revscene.net/forums/diy-r...c-t603165.html

Use this as a starter. Find out what the problem is before it gets worse.

All OBDII cars can do this. I use a paper clip. Not too sure, but on the S and the RSX, the plug is beside the gas pedal, behind the center console.

Just don't put the wire/pin into the wrong hole or you can fry your ecu.

If you really want to know, get a shop manual. Learn, figure out how stuff works, instead of begging for someone to hand hold you through the process.

If you know what parts do what, you would check the MAP and vacuum hose are related. The hose could just crack and cause your acceleration issues.

Dumbass.

i did get a shop manual. Whats wrong with asking people advice for a real hands on approach? If you checked around the threads on this forum and any other car forum you will find lots of ppl helping ppl threads.

the only person getting bothered is you, so chill out.

That's great you want to learn about cars and get a real hands on approach but you need calm down on shot gun diagnosing as well. Going from guessing it's an o2 sensor to now a map sensor is grounds for thinking that you have no idea what's going on.

Most of those threads with people helping people actually involve Godwin. I've never seen him ever post frustrated posts until now. But he is actually one of the most helpful people when it comes to "tech advice".

That out of the way if you honestly believe it is the MAP sensor (based on looking at lights flash). Check hose conditions, check sensor voltage with vacuum and no vacuum (load vs no load) specs.

If it is on all the time, it's more than likely something broke. If it's flashing it's probably something intermittent (like a vacuum hose crack on accel but nothing at cruise).

The MAP sensor basically will help with telling the engine what load is on the engine and adjust fuel accordingly.
