On fido: buying a Rogers 9700?

Can I buy one and simply unlock it myself?
How can I check if it's a stolen phone?
Will my fido 500mb data plan still work on the 9700?

Thanks in advance

yes u can buy one and unlock it urself, i believe u need to get the "unlock" code and punch it in urself, very easy, 5min job.
yes u can use ur fido 500mb plan, u just need to call into cs and tell them u'll be using ur berry with it, they need to add some stuff on their side for ur berry to work.
if ur buying it off cl, i suggest u look for new sealed one, since price diff is not that big from what i can see, if ur going for an old one, then i guess call b4 u make the transaction, call into rogers cs and give them the imei/pin and tell them to see if its stolen, plus u'll want to call in and make sure the pin is released anyways.

what happens if you are on fido, and it turns out the phone you bought was stolen? the phone is rogers but unlocked with fido. do they share the same "blacklist"?
