| Good Vet in Richmond
Anyone know of a good vet in richmond? Someone that wont try to upsell or rip you off but actually care for the well being of your pet? I used to go to Newton animal hospital as they are all these and amazing but i long moved to richmond and want to find someone closer for my pup. Any recommendations?

I go to Dear Animal Hospital. For puppies, they have a packaged deal. Depending on the size of your dog, it's a different price...
they're located in Blundell Mall (No.2 & Blundell) near diagonally across from starbucks
give them a call to inquire! the vet, Dr. Greenberg, is really nice!

My dog was really sick and after going to coquitlam, i moved him to a close location in richmond.
Everything there is more costly than anywhere else, all they kept saying was to do a full body panel and bloodwork for him. I spent more than 800 dollars and my dog didnt get any better, if not worse. I asked about the cataracts forming, he said to not worry.... Weeks later he went blind. Not to mention after bloodwork hes a ball of nerves shaking everywhere and has blood all over the puncture area. I hate this place. Posted via RS Mobile |

I have unusual pet and before I went there, I asked if vet has any experience with my type of pet.. They told me that they do, so I went in.. Long story short, vet didn't seem to know much about my pet.. as he didn't even know common habits of the animal. To treat my pet's burn, they offered antibiotic which I could get it for 16$ over the internet or even shoppper's (one used by humans, not made for animal either) and mixture of 3ml of liquid to feed(another antibiotic).
overall, they charged me $124 for the visit. I don't mind paying but the vet couldn't even see the wound because my pet was resisting due to her being scared. He also suggested that I should not bathe my pet until the wound is cured in the beginning but as I was leaving, he suggested me to give my pet 'cold water treatment' to bathe wounded skin to ease pain.
Overall, I could not give him much credit for his knowledge in my pet. As a matter of fact, it seemed that he barely have any knowledge at all, yet they claim to have experiences dealing with my pet.
Overcharged? definitely. Knowledgable? maybe common pets but definitely not exotic pets.

Are you embarrassed to say what kind of pet you have? Why do you keep referring to it as "the pet"...Why not just way what it is?....
Berz out.

why would I be embarassed to say what kind of pet I have?
Would ANY pet that you have embarass you?
I know it wouldn't if I am keeping one..
If you really want to know, I have a hedgehog.
The vet just called me today to see how my pet is doing. It was nice of him to do that.
But when the vet was checking up my pet, he asked me few questions like where would my hedgehog's natural habitat be, or how would they survive winter in the wild when I told him my pet cannot stay cold for long or it'll be very dangerous for her(goes into 'unprepared' hybernation which can be fatal).
He didn't even know that there were different species of hedgehogs in the wild, yet when I called them, they claim to have experiences with hedgehog. The vet was very nice person, but he also gave me impression that my pet is his first ever hedgehog, and it is very questionable if he has any more knowledge about hedgehog than I have. $124 for antibiotic and so called 'checkup' which all can be obtained from any drug store for $20 is overpriced by far and more importantly, I wouldn't want any harm done to my pet from 'inexperienced accident'

finding vets that deal with uncommon (usually the smaller ones like birds, rabbits, hedgehogs, hamsters, etc) are hard to find. I find it really annoying though when a clinic says they have experience when they clearly don't. I had that issue a few times when i used to raise rabbits. Some vets don't realize the harm they can do to these animals with their lack of knowledge.

If you really want to know, I have a hedgehog. | It just seemed odd because you kept referring to your hedgehog as "the pet" instead of just telling us what you had, that's all.
