I tried one, ray's mechanic one on Craigslist. An inspection of a car, and he missed checking a critical part of the car.

With these mobile mechanics, many are probably doing this for under the table money. Tough to really prove their credentials.

I would just take your car to the family mechanic, or a referred mechanic shop.

My brother in Law has been a mechanic for 30 years. He works at a shop, but on weekends he usually does maintenance work on peoples cars. Fluid changes, tires and brakes, electrical problems, even serious engine work.
These people are usually friends, family, friend of family, neighbors, word of mouth etc etc. He hasn't bothered with craigslist, but imho, its VERY hard to trust someone, thats why word of mouth is important. I wouldn't go with these craigslist mobile dudes.
Some fo us are just lucky enough to know a good mechanic. Try going with someone who has a good reputation with people you know, and pay him cash on a weekend. Saves you money.
