| Can I use my Fido Iphone in HK?
I don't want to search the 200 page iphone thread and just looking for a quick answer.
I have a Fido Iphone, can I use it in Hong Kong with a HK provider SIM card?
or do I have to unlock my fido phone to do that?
thanks!

as long as it covers the HK GSM frequency and you unlocked it. Depends on your gen of iphone the difficulty of unlocking varies.

whats an itouch..
anyways. you can either spend like 5 mins jailbreaking and unlocking your phone. or just buy a cheap phone over there. or a nice phone which will be an upgrade on your iphone. Posted via RS Mobile |

Just download blackra1n and jailbreak then unlock it. Takes no more than 10 minutes to do. Just make sure you haven't upgraded to 3.1.3 firmware since there's no way to jailbreak or unlock with the new firmware.

thanks though! | in dec 08 i went back and there wasn't an software unlock avail at the time for the iphone 3g
what i did was bought a unlock sim card that piggy backs onto the HK-provider sim card
it does work but from time to time i would just suddenly lose signal and can take random times to aquire the network again... (probably new method at the time, i was using People's prepaid sim if that helps)
cost is around 180hkd
even tho it works its kind of unreliable and at times when i went out and wanted to meet up with my frds it would decide to crap out the signal for me... i had to borrow someone else's phone to call my frds to meet up, its a hassle

well, back from hong kong. i can tell you that the fido iphone is absolute garbage when it leaves North America.
problems i had was that my caller ID never worked, my voicemail never worked, it rings on my end, but people calling from Vancouver cannot hear the dailing ring tone. I had to reset my network settings every day and now it's all fucked up coming back to vancouver. when i text message, it says some "PDP authenication not correct", i have no clue what it is.
if your vancouver phone number is important, bring another phone. leave it at home. all i used it for was internet and music.

You can try to manually edit it, or sync in iTunes and have it download the carrier settings (which I do believe include carrier specific settings like the APN). You'll probably want to reset network settings first so you start with a clean slate.
