Which android manufacture would you buy from?

Posted something similar on HOFO but the android thread seems to be desolate.

With all the Android handsets coming out left and right, what manufacture would you buy from?

We've seen a few out already, and some android phones appear as though they will never be updated past 1.5/1.6.

Are you buying an Android phone purely based on the looks, or if you feel the manufacture will provide future updates and not just forget about it for the newer handsets?

If so, who would you buy from and why?

I am looking forward for the SE X10 Mini Pro. It's everything I've dream of for a 3G+ cellphone. I travel frequently with my Macbook Air or Netbook now, so I rarely use my phone for browsing other than emails.

The X10 Mini Pro offers everything in a tiny little shell. Plus a physical KB for some quick email replies. As long as it offers some good/easy tethering+some way to put Android 2.1 on it, I'm sold.

The reason some phones are not updated past 1.5/1.6 is due to a combination of:
1) hardware limitation - 1st gen android phones don't have a system partition size big enough to accommodate the newer and bigger OS revisions. This was probably an oversight during hardware design and is no longer a problem with the coming phones.
2) The carriers in Canada would rather sell you a new phone than to give users free updates and features.

With that said, you can always "root" the phone and install unofficial updates as you please. (Similar to "jailbreaking" the iPhone). For example, my HTC Dream currently has 1.6 installed, eventhough Robbers never made it past the now obsolete 1.5.

The Moto Milestone from Telus is currently the best Android phone avail in Canada. (Basically a rebranded Moto Droid for North America network support)

Thanks! i didn't think of the hardware issue. I just thought of it as Robbers not giving a shit about their current Android customers and focusing on the new X10.

I think I will go with the Milestone, it's due for an Android 2.1 update in the next few months. With a wide release and more customers than say the LG EVE/HTC Dream, i think it has higher chances of being updated =)

Droid, Nexus One, any of HTC's Android phones. I've read that the SE phones all come out feeling cheap and plasticky, but they'll probably have the best media playback of all of them, so if that's what you're after, go for the X10, or even wait for Windows Phone 7.
