recommand me a dog trainer please

I want to try a dog trainer:

here are the requirements:
1) my Dog is a stubborn Korean Jindo 1yr old ( he is extremely well behaved at home, but when walking on leash its a different story, he likes to jump on other dogs semi aggressively, eventhough he has not bitten anyone. He goes to off-leash park often (1-3times a month) and plays well when off-leash.)

2) dog trainer must have expereience with jindo or able to handle aggressive dogs.

3) Willing to do any type of training including an E-collar type.

4) not looking for basic training like sit/come/go/lie down..etc
Honestly I don't know why my dog is two-faced with leash on and leash off. He feels tense when other dogs approach us and after they exchange smell (he standing still with tense body), he likes to jump on them and growl/whine depending on the dog type and size.

Any tip would be nice, thanks in advance.

You can just teach him the leave it command...although I have to admit I havent been successful at that with my stuburn dog. I have the same issue..

have you ever watched the show "Dog Whisperer". lots of those dogs have the same problem your dog does. it what ive seen from the show.. the problem may lie in the walker as he/she is allowing the dog to dominate them..

i do watch the show but prefer to have a professional to help me train it as oppose to myself trying to figure out and do the wrong things.

I don't know if my dog dominates me on walks, he understands the command " back" -- so he always walks behind me unless i give him the "ok" to explore. Its when the other dogs come towards us that he wants to see them or jump on them whether with aggressive or playful intention.

Someone recommanded e-collar to me the other day too.

It sounds like he's either scared of them or feels he needs to protect you if it's being agressive with approaching dogs.
I took mine to bc canine. www.bccanine.ca They do GREAT work! Even a dog as stubborn as mine listened!

He can react differently depend on dogs. He may stand still and sniff or let other dog sniff him, then he wants to hop on them. I can see that sometimes he is just curious and playful, because sometimes he whines and keep looking back at the dog if drag him away and kept on walking, but sometimes he will growl after being sniffed.

I do want more information as to the cost of a trainer and types of training they do

I went to him for basic lessons with my dog. My dog is fine at home, but she is very aggressive towards other people/dogs because she is scared/a little anti-social.

She warmed right up to Don and she is better now, but still plenty of room for improvement.

i dropped by tk one day to ask about rates, and it's $200 for 6 sessions + 1 socializing class, is that a good rate? cause i've talked to friends and they took their dog else where to get trained for $80 for 6 sessions.

Don is a little pricier then other places. But I personally found he gives a lot of attention to your dog and I noticed improvements after 1-2 classes.

I still (my wife) goes to Don's weekend classes for social class @ 10 am on Sunday. We've taken our dog there for lessons as our dog was about 5 months old. Our dog has taken a few levels there. We learned the basics (sit,stay come, down), we learned to control our dog off leash (we do it at his training center, and not in public). We've taken a few lessons on his obstacle training.

Once in a while, he might have some parties at his training center. This sunday he is having a dog party thing from 10-12 noon. He also participates in the Aberdeen dog show once a year as well.

i have a hyper min pin that's quite agressive towards strangers and most other dogs. I've tried harnesses, haulty collar, and choke collars with the choke collar as the best results. However he still pulls quite a bit on walks. I ordered this dvd training set called "don sullivan's secret to training a perfect dog" and 'command collar' from a trainer called Don sullivan. He designed the collar to be a milder version of the prong collar and with his techniques i was able to walk my dog without pulling within literally 2 minutes of using it. It's really amazing. His training method is very much like caesars where you have to show dominance over your dog, he corrects with the command collar (phsycial correction) and he doesnt reward with treats, only praise if the dog does things right. His goal is to train any dog to eventually be able to walk off leash. His training deals with all aspects of dog behavioral problems from aggression, to pulling on leashes, to cutting nails. It's a cheap cheap investment compared to a real trainer and so far for me, it's worked wonders within the first few days with my crazy min pin.

give it a shot before you invest thousands into private trainers.

I'm not sure, but I think you might need to take at least 1 set of lessons before you can enroll into the social class.

The command collars (and the other plastic less aggressive looking) "prong-type" collars actually are worse than a real prong. The plastic ones will actually go inwards(in direction...not into the skin) whereas the prongs life. Put one on your arm or neck and give it a yank. If it pinches the skin then that's what you want. You don't want one that's like an 18th century torture device that jabs in. Main difference is how the hooks are situated. Metal prongs will lie flat against the skin, and a correction will cause A and B links to pinch together and lift up. If it doesn't lie flat, you might as well buy a spinke collar and have your dog wear it inside-out.

I've worn a plastic and metal prong, and I can tell you that although the plastic one looks more tame, if your dog charges while scared or being attacked, it hurts (like a mofo!!!) while the metal one will still pinch

80dollars for 6 can be had at places like petsmart. Total waste of time. They're just like a bunch of the happy-go-lucky hippy trainers out there that ONLY reward good behavior but let bad behavior slide. Anytime a trainer says to 'leave choke/prongs at home' should be a serious flag to gtfo! Dogs will test boundaries and this let's em know what's allowed and what's not. But if you're constantly giving treats, you're either gonna have a very messy training center, or a full dog that no longer wants em. Therefore most trainers will limit training to short little sessions. But then try doing it when you have no treats. It does not transfer. The only way it'll work is if you do a random reward session. Reward on trial 1, 4, 6,7,10 etc. So the dog doesn't know when it'll come, but that it will. I haven't tried this. But I've tried physical correction for non-compliance and he'll do it....to avoid the punishment.

I have worked with them and worked for them in the past, highly recommend. They will not shy from aggressive dogs like other dog trainers.

Anyways sounds like your dog has a dominance issue go with the ones recommended in this thread, do not goto hippy dog trainer like ones in pet stores. Work on gaining your dog's respect while inside the house such as having to sit before he get ANY food, having off limit furnitures/places reserve for you only, you walking through any entrance before the dog etc
