2011 VW CrossPolo

Although presales have started in Germany, Volkswagen will only publically unveil the new CrossPolo model at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Based on the Polo five-door hatch range, the CrossPolo name seems to have gained a good following from the previous-generation model.

The new car stands even taller than before and features a number of pieces designed to give it a rugged look. The contrasting anthracite-coloured front bumper with integrated fog lights, the large air intake in the middle, an upper chrome grille, black skirts and plastic casings are some of the items. A five-spoke design is specified for the 17-inch wheels which wear 214/40 tyres. Customers will be able to choose from six exterior paint colours which probably all look lovely in combination with the silver side mirrors and silver anodized roof railing.

The interior is to be sold in four different fabric trim choices and a list of goodies to please both girls and guys. Included in that are things like leather-covered steering wheel, aluminium pedals, electric windows all round and lit makeup mirrors in the sun visors.

Volkswagen will supply the CrossPolo with a total of six engine derivatives including a 1.2 TSI with 77kW (105hp) and a 1.4-litre making 63kW (85hp). Diesel fans will get to enjoy the 1.6 TDI in several power configurations such as 66kW (90hp) and 77kW (105hp). The former can also be had with a DSG transmission.

Sales start at the end of May in Germany. Thereafter the rest of Europe will get it, followed by countries like Japan and South Africa.

Reminds me of a mini-XC60/70.

It reminds me of a subaru outback... This would be an awesome Mini/Fiesta/Fit/Yaris fighter, VW's interiors are leaps and bounds ahead of the competition.

the two tone is killing it for me, I think it would look better with one solid colour.

Interior and idea is good. The low gray plastics look terrible thou, either make the plastics bigger and chunkier for a "tough" outback-ish look or paint them for a sleek urban utility look.

I love it! I'm a sports car guy at heart, but with too many outdoor hobbies to own a low-slung car again.

The black plastic lower panels are great for hauling down gravel roads without worrying about dings and paint chips. And it looks like it might be a fun, reasonably sporty drive on pavement. And it wouldn't look ostentatious in either setting. Nice!

The only thing that doesn't fit are the low profile tires. You need more reasonable sidewalls to accomplish what this car looks like it was built to do.

did i miss something here? the bigger engine makes less power than the smaller one? then what is the point of having the 1.4?

Both 1.2 & 1.4 are Petrol. 1.2 is T/C thus higher output. Diesels are 1.6.

Quote:
Buyers can choose from three petrol (1.2L 70HP, 1.4L 85HP and 1.2 TSI 105HP) and three common rail TDI engines (1.6L TDI with 75HP, 90HP and 105HP). Three of the six engines are offered optionally with a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission.
