| Infiniti M's blind-spot warning system
The new Infiniti M will introduce a new blind-spot warning system that will stop the car being steered into the path of the vehicle next to it.
The new system, called Blind Spot Intervention, functions like a normal warning system by detecting cars within the driver’s blind spot and issuing a warning. But if the driver pulls out anyway the M will take evasive action, and turn the steering to bring car back into its lane.
The M will also be available with Infiniti’s Drive system, which changes the car’s engine and chassis settings. Drivers can choose from Eco, Sport, Standard or Sport settings, which alter the gearshift characteristics and throttle response.
Eco includes the first application of Nissan’s Eco Pedal technology; if the accelerator pedal is pushed down hard, it pushes back with what is described as “gentle resistance”. The system can also be switched off.
As with the rest of the Infiniti range, the M is based on a variant of Nissan’s rear-drive FR platform, which also underpins the 370Z. In the M it creates a front-to-rear weight distribution of 53/47.
The car will be available with V6 engines, but that includes the new diesel, a 3.0-litre unit developed by Renault Nissan. It will be available from launch, and Infiniti claims the engine will offer excellent refinement, and says a lot of attention has been paid to acoustic quality.
The M will also be sold as a hybrid. Due to go on sale at the beginning of 2011, six months after the petrol and diesel cars, the hybrid powertrain will couple the older 3.5-litre V6 (which is still on sale in the US) with a seven-speed automatic gearbox, and an electric motor sandwiched between the two.
It will have the ability to run on electric power alone, unlike rivals from Mercedes and BMW. Infiniti claims diesel economy with petrol V6 performance. http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsAr...Series/247655/ |

^ They probably need some sort of ergonomic machinery to forcefully rotate their heads to shoulder check. |

I dunno if I like the sound of this. What if you gotta quickly swerve to avoid something in your lane and the computer senses the car that was in your blind spot 2 seconds ago (but is no longer there ) as there...
Seriously, how hard is to check your blind spots that we now need a computer to do it for you. No wonder drivers are getting shittier. Posted via RS Mobile |

Was it the Lexus or the Infiniti that has the system where it automatically brakes if you get too close to a car in front or something?

already implemented in the 2010 volvo's we have at work here.
blinks orange rapidly at the A pillar/side mirror when there's a car in your blind spot, even though you don't have turn signals on or anything.
just the indicators though, doesn't have the steering computer override though.

It's for lazy ass people who don't bother shoulder checking. IMO they deserve to get into an accident for not shoulder checking. But I guess its good for the other drivers on the road lol.
Like twitchyzero said people should be shoulder checking anyways.
And same goes for what Orange7 said I would trust my own shoulder checks over electronics. My family accord has a backup camera which I never use to back up. I always look back regardless of the stupid camera or not. The only thing useful about the camera is backing up into tight spaces. I know a bunch of friends who use the camera to back up.. and they're retarded because you don't get a full view of the rear.

Weird, cars have had these inventions for years........its called a MIRROR.
*edit*
And if that fails, theres a nifty trick that common sense instills in our brains called the SHOULDER CHECK.

I can already see people trying this out when they get the car. "look I can turn the wheel and it won't let me smash into this car!" *turns wheel, smashes into car* "WTF??"
This will only make certain people worse at driving, because they'll end up depending on it rather than looking themselves. Posted via RS Mobile |

Posted via RS Mobile | Worse yet, what if it was a PERSON in front that you had to avoid and your sensor senses a car in your blind spot. I'd rather smash the car in my blind spot than hit a person.

I don't shoulder check when driving my own car. It's got big B and C pillars with a dinky quarter window. Shoulder checking does nothing, I have to rely on my mirrors and I have them adjusted in such a way that I can see everything behind me.

Another peeve of mine is people who signal, turn their head, and change lanes all at the same time
