| Monthly housing in Hong Kong
I'm a co-op student, entering my 1st work term this year. Time Warner HK is offering a job... for a OH SO HIGH wage of $1000USD/month (~6,800HKD), with no subsidy on housing, expenses etc...
you know, typical HK entry job rip-off kind of deal.
I want the job, but I don't want to depend on my relatives in HK for a place to stay - anybody here on RS know where I can find decent, monthly rent places in Hong Kong that is preferably furnished? (at least a bed and a desk of some sort) or at least point me towards some resources?
thanks!

Time Warner HK!? I work for Outblaze who is affiliated with it! There is one guy I know from their office which I believe is in Quarry bay from Vancouver too! Anyways, I'm looking for a new place in HK right now. There are a handfull of websites you could look at:
gohome.com.hk
squarefoot.com.hk
hongkong.gumtree.com.hk
hongkong.craigslist.hk
adpost.com.hk
And of course there are the websites for the realtors:
Midland
Centaline
Century 21
Etc.
If you're willing to spend about 6k a month on housing alone, you might be able to find a service apt which is about 100 sq ft.
Also, if you're willing to live out in NT, it'll be cheaper.

with $7800 only a month and you gotta rent your own place.... I'd rather not do it.
a shit hole 100sq ft room in the ghetto parts of HK is gonna cost you at least 3g... even that shitty place that collapsed cost that much, and transport fee is gonna cost you close to 2-3g a month without riding taxi since in order to rent a place that cheap u are looking at least an hr transport riding publicly.
btw, HKD and USD rate is fixed at 7.8

With that salary, you will want to stay with family. Otherwise you'll be stuck in a tiny shithole, or in an expat ghetto or something. All other expenses in HK are dirt cheap, but rent is the one that will burn through most of your budget.

you can always live at those hourly motels =)
you might get lucky and find a cheap hoe! hahaha
all jokes aside, live with relatives. you can pay them "rent" if you don't feel right staying at their place for free.

$1000 a month in HK will go a long way if you don't have to pay rent.

btw, a nicely renovated studio suite thats smaller then my bathroom cost about $6000 a month in causeway bay.
you can also consider living in china.... you can get a decent place 700-800sqft and about 10 minutes from the border for no more then $1000 a month

hm.. thanks for the input guys. I think I'll consider living with my relatives then, and "compensate" them for whatever
Alternatively I can blow my entire salary on renting a nice furnished studio on HK island (since the office is in Quarry Bay), and then misc expenses will come from me parents.
Other than that, I think I'm going to go for that job. Hope i get it!

Yeah in any case, you'll need some external support from either another job, or your parents.

someone rich needs to buy an RS house(s) around the world, where RS'ers can crash for cheap or chores, like cleaning up LOL!

isn't there that website called couchsurfing.com or whatever? Basically random ppl offering u free housing...but I wouldn't trust it....just throwing it out there... I would just live with relatives, and probably buy dinner for them and bring back some groceries during ur stay. Posted via RS Mobile |
