i havent worked at mr.lube for a long time, so no i dont know about the problems with mobil 1. i actually dont even run synthetic in my car, dont see the need to. hate to back peddle, but i run 5-20 quaker state in my tl.

For it's price, Pennzoil synthetic oil gets pretty good reviews from Bob the oil guy.
and what makes you such a credible source? ive been trying to find evidence to support what ive been saying but all i come across are tests done by amsoil.

im gonna go ahead and post it anyways, http://www.bigskyoil.com/amsoil_test...l_testing.html

Cheaper than Castrol Edge which is technically a bit better than Mobil 1 but the cost is quite alot.

One issue with Mobil 1 that is well documented is on the S2000's and their timing chain tensioners failing on cars that are using Mobil 1.

The biggest issue with Mobil 1 is that they are charging premium prices for dino oil. It's been talked about quite extensively on the net and on Revscene. You pay close to $40 for 4.4 L and $33 when on sale for 5 L.
The Pennzoil Platinum is $34 regular price for 4.73L at WalMart and right now the 4.4L is on sale for under $20.

Since you worked at a Mr. Lube and are such an expert on oil, please tell us why Pennzoil = meh?

If you want to do some reading up on oil, check this site.

pennzoil platinum euro formula is the one you want 5w40 aka shell helix ultra. else a cheaper alternative and good for guys who run boost is shell rotella t6 synthetic 5w40

fyi, shell owns pennzoil and quaker state. the 5w40 full synthetic euro formula stuff sold under both brands uses essentially the shell helix ultra base stocks. they have virtually the same specs and Cst flow rates if you look up the specs.

i have used the pennzoil euro formula and its decent.

i have never once actually said that i was some kind of expert because i worked at mr.lube, i simply stated that i worked there because of tofu's comment about working there. "pennzoil=meh" comment is mostly opinionated, but that link i provided does show that mobil 1 does perform better then pennzoil synthetic.

i wasnt aware of the problems with the s2000 timing chains and tensioners, has it actually been proven that the damage was done by the oil itself?...

mobil 1 charging premium prices for dino oil? mobil 1 is a full synthetic, their dino oil is sold under a different name, mobil super 2000 or something along those lines, its sold at a higher cost because its just the name thats on the bottle, its all a marketing thing. the oil itself is similar to the "esso" branded stuff you can buy.

yeah, mobil has their non synthetic mobil 1000 stuff, mobil 2000 being semi synthetic.

if you havent heard, i believe valvoline or someone along the lines like that, did a test on competitor oils and found mobil one to not even meet minimum required specs set by SAE (or something like that)

this news was like about a year ago, when i actually quit mr lube. now you are informed. we have no idea what happened after someone proved that mobil one is making sub standard synthetic oil.
