Planning to buy 01 Audi A4

Hey

im planning to purchase an 2001 audi a4 qutto 1.8t (190xxxk)
was wondering what should i look for before take it off the orders hand?

The coilpacks will fail. I won't touch 1.8T of that vintage.

i had sludge build up on my 01 jetta 1.8T... the coil packs failed, but i received a letter indicating they are a recalled item now.

I would check every electronic to make sure it works...
check the interior linings to see if they are wet for they commonly leak.

the turbo, see if it leaks, or has uber amounts of play

stay far far away

1.8t = problems

those a4's aren't that good....

would advise to stay away either buy the newer 2.0 fsi which will cost you an arm and a leg or the older 2.8 v6 which isn't as bad but still has its fair share if problems

(i mean this is euro, gernerally the problems they have is higher milage and cost quite a bit to fix, i use to have a 01 1.8t Jetta and it was fucked)

A4 3.0 Is the best one. I work for them and never really see huge problems with that model

audi = PITA for maintenance

the 2001 is an older model. They all have coil pack problems, and an older model like the 2001 is over $100 each coil. The new ones are actually about $40 a coil. Other than that, its almost $1500 to do a timing belt and waterpump. I've seen wheel bearing issues, and sludge and oil consuming issues. Sludge issues can be reduced that the oil change intervals should be shorter than what audi recommended.

coil packs are an issue, but its a factory defect and will be fixed for free by audi if it happens.. 1.8t motor is a toss up chance.. you could have a world of problems. check for coolant leaks #1 on the back of the block there is a major seal that will go around that time, check for build up. check for any electrical issues if possible, check every light/window/signal be sure. get it scanned !!

i have an a4 like that and have never had those problems. theres over 150k on the clock now. but check the stock k03 turbo, they are notorious to leak
