It is also mentioned in edmund insideline stating that
"Our 2008 STI's 0.90g skid pad performance (while exceptional) is slightly below the old car's 0.93g effort. Perhaps the 245/40R18 Dunlop Sport SP 600 tires don't have as much ultimate grip as the Bridgestone Potenza RE070s of old. At the same time, we couldn't feel the difference on the open road, where real corners that feature direction changes more closely mimic the slalom." http://www.insideline.com/subaru/imp...a-wrx-sti.html
I guess since the advans A13c are rated lower than the dunlops, it must be other factors why the Evo handles better than a STI? Maybe you can chime in.
No need to be all hostile and pointing fingers now, I am a Evo owner, but I do like the STI very much. | i thought u drove an evo x?
one reason that i posted long ago y the evo can out handle the sti is because of the diffs in the evo. vary the power from side to side and front to back, u end up with one wheel drive powering through the corners, no understeer, no oversteer. re: look up AYC
now some people will come in and say but the sti has a electronic center diff which varied power front and rear too! the truth is NO, its doesnt work like the way u think it does.
and no im not trying to be hostile, i am just merely pointing out the wrong facts so people dont get mislead.

when I am thinking of getting evo or sti ( not that I am thinking to get it for real) :P
it always comes down to value. which car depreciate less is the one I would get
SO I think of it this way
Subaru has way better market here in NA.
Mitsubishi almost went bankrupt I don't know how many times.
I think Subaru will have higher resale value won't it?
so I would get an STI
... errr damn it! ...
re reading OP's post, you said "leasing" ... so my post is useless but I'll post it anyway, because I can LOL |

I'd driven both and owned one in the past 5 years. I would say that the Subaru is less refined and on the wilder side. Like, driving an older E36 M3. But on the other hand, the EVO is more of a time attack machine, good steering response and points to the direction you want. Just like a E92 M3 with loads of technology. If your gonna pick, I would go with the exterior of the car. Both are very fast car that you have excessive power for daily use already. It's easy to pick, hb vs 4 door sedan.

I vote Evo just because I ended up getting one... curse Mitsubishi for introducing the SST though!! A 6spd would have been perfect!

the evo has a faster rack than an sti (sti has a rack the equivalent of a '98 beetle). |

Then again the evo is a cooler looking car and stock car outperforms, but i don't know much about mitsubishi's durability overall. | Pft you and your ugly hatchbacks

I do own a Evo X, but I also believe that if STI were to equip with a gripper tire, it would handle closer with an Evo, that is all. I think JDM spec STI uses bridgestones, but I can't dig up the source for that, I could be wrong though.

i thought you couldnt test drive an evo at a dealership cause they dont have any there until you order and pay for it? so i guess you have to find someone with an evo willing to let you drive it?

Once I've narrowed down my list of candidates I've always considered the following things:
1. The driving feel of the car - unless you're going to do track days extensively the actual lap times don't matter. How do the ergonomics fit you? Do the steering, handling & controls feel right? Does it put a smile on your face or not?
2. Build quality - this includes perceived build quality - is there a difference between the cars? No matter how much you like a car, if it's regularly causing you problems it will not be long before you hate it. Always buy quality first.
3. Does the car fit your economic situation? - resale value. Cost of repairs. Other costs. Is your economic situation a factor.
Right off the bat I'd pick the Subie because it's a hatchback. I have an outdoor lifestyle and a hatch helps. However, since both cars are candidates then that's probably not an issue for you.
The priority you give these 3 things can change depending on where you're at in life. But you must consider them or you might regret your purchase.
