Evo X vs. WRX STI

I just wanted to get ur guy's opinion and/or experience. Im looking to lease either an evo or sti. ive watched review videos and all that stuff, from wat ive seen the evo its a better car all around. But i just wanted to see wat u guys had to say, evo or sti? the only reason im not all for the evo is cuz of the shitty interior, sti on the other hand has a fairly nice and comfortable looking interior.

Mugen EvOlutioN 03-07-2010 04:03 PM

EVO has always outperform STi in the past, till today.

EVOs interior blows balls in the past decade, and even in the EVo 10 it still is horrific. THe new STi's interior design actually step up a lot

.Renn.Sport 03-07-2010 04:14 PM

GRB STI > EVO X

rawr 03-07-2010 04:18 PM

the STI definitely looks better than the evo. however, the evo drives better. both cars are outstanding performers, so it doesn't really matter.

are you looking for a MT or dual clutch evo? have you actually considered a 370z, or perhaps a 135i?

Jackygor 03-07-2010 04:19 PM

drive both...you will know right away which one you want. What are you goals for the car?

ilvtofu 03-07-2010 04:19 PM

I like the hatchback practicality of the STi so not only does the interior feel better it's also more usable. The base model/price here is pretty good IMO 2k less than the base evo, With minor suspension upgrades with that money you save I would assume the STi can probably run with the evo. Then again the evo is a cooler looking car and stock car outperforms, but i don't know much about mitsubishi's durability overall.

If your looking for a car will heavy balls get the EVO. If your looking for something with "better" interior get STI.

EVO all the way.

import_luva 03-07-2010 04:35 PM

im looking at the mt evo. i think the evo mr is the only model that comes in mt if im not mistaken.

i would be leasing it so no big plans, just rims and suspension upgrades

falcon 03-07-2010 04:36 PM

I really like the EVo 8 and 9. The 10 does nothing for me.

That being said, a close frined of mine has a white 09 STI. Full exhaust, stage 2 cobb access port, suspension and the car hauls. So fun to drive and it looks wicked.

RCubed 03-07-2010 04:37 PM

I would've considered the evo if it had a 6spd.
But I'm extremely satisfied with my GRB. =)

Then I guess long term issue isn't too much of a problem. I honestly think it comes down to if you need the trunk space or not. The evo x has non existent trunk space while the STI is a hatch back. Another thing is probably the payment, which one is cheaper to lease. Honestly, they are both really similar cars. Handling wise, I have heard that the STI tends to handle worst because of the tires and it is more prone to understeering, while the people have said that Evo tends to handling like a rwd car. I also believe that evo x is a little bit more "raw".

falcon 03-07-2010 04:46 PM

Funny you say that because the STI's drivetrain is RWD based and the EVO is a FWD based drivetrain.

Ironically yes, it also has to do with the how the awd actually work between the 2 ;). One thing that makes the STI handle worst is the craptastic tires it comes with stock, while evo x OEM tires are like extreme performance tire.

nack 03-07-2010 06:08 PM

its an endless debate
watch what top gear had to say

they both come with extreme performance tires.

stop giving out false information.

in fact, that EVO comes with ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE tires.

I do apologize for my lack of research in regards to the dunlops, however, you do know that the SP Sport 600 is rated along lines with the RE-11, Kumho MX/XS, Z1 star specs. While the ADVAN A13C is in the class of general UHP, S. Drive, Kumho SPT...etc, right? I was merely trying to defend the STI and explain why it handles worst than the Evo in stock form. It is also mentioned in edmund insideline stating that

"Our 2008 STI's 0.90g skid pad performance (while exceptional) is slightly below the old car's 0.93g effort. Perhaps the 245/40R18 Dunlop Sport SP 600 tires don't have as much ultimate grip as the Bridgestone Potenza RE070s of old. At the same time, we couldn't feel the difference on the open road, where real corners that feature direction changes more closely mimic the slalom."

http://www.insideline.com/subaru/imp...a-wrx-sti.html

I guess since the advans A13c are rated lower than the dunlops, it must be other factors why the Evo handles better than a STI? Maybe you can chime in.

No need to be all hostile and pointing fingers now, I am a Evo owner, but I do like the STI very much.

VK79 03-07-2010 07:04 PM

Generally it is agreed that if your car is more of a track day toy + a little daily driving the evo is more fun, however if you plan to drive it daily to work/school and maybe take it to the track once in a purple moon, its better to stick to the STi.

Driven both and personally prefer the STi for the 6sp, somewhat higher quality interior and practicality of the hatch configuration.

Z3guy 03-07-2010 07:15 PM

wow, I thought the STI and EVO were close....after watching the Jeremy Clarkson vid, makes me like the EVO more:)

skyxx 03-07-2010 07:19 PM

SUBIE CAMP VS MITSU CAMP AKA RXRenesis VS Jackygor. :lol

gnat. 03-07-2010 07:26 PM

test drive both to see which one you like more.
but looks wise, personally, STi > EVO!
especially after the STi has been modified! MMM white with black rims!!!!

124Y 03-07-2010 08:28 PM

Performance wise, stock for stock the EVO X outperforms the STI, but it's pretty close, so it's pretty much down to personal preferences. From my personal experience, here's how I see the two cars:

Things I like about the EVO:
-It's hot damn! (Looks better than the STI IMO)
-Stock for stock it feels more firm.
-Seats are more akin to aftermarket bucket seats. The stock STI seats feel softer and less hard-core.
-Red brake calipers with Brembo lettering.
-Middle interior air vents position (I find the STI's to be too low for my liking)
-More storage room below climate control bezels, behind center cup holders, and etc.
-Stock wheels (either the 12-spoke enkei or the BBS) looks good. I'm not a fan of the STI's 5-spoke wheels and the 18-spoke BBS must be a bitch to clean)
-Dash design looks better and is more aggressive (needles start @ 6 o'clock position and the cover on top protrudes out more).

Things I like about the STI:
-Boxer engine rumble makes me jizz in my pants.
-6MT available
-Seats recline by pulling a lever instead of rotating a knob, which takes forever.
-"STI" badges everywhere (You don't get the "evolution" badge everywhere in the evo)
-Rear seats fold down and storage space in the hatch is far superior than the evo's tiny trunk.
-Needle sweep on start-up.
-Quad-tip exhaust vs the EVO's dual tip.
-Has a lock for the glove compartment.
-The "beep" when locking the car sounds better than the evo's "honk".
-Foot rest is metallic (matches the pedals unlike the EVO)
-Stock shift knob doesn't look cheap at all.
-Base model has projector housing VS the reflector housing for the base EVO.
-LED tail lights (Only the center brake light on the trunk is in LEDs)
-Sunroof! (For the Canadian market, sunroof is available only on the MR for the evo, which is the SST version). No sunroof for evo GSRs (not sure for 2010 models though).

Those are mere subtle points that may seem too little to make a difference, but in the whole package, it just might affect one's choice. It was a tough choice for me a year ago, but what made me pull the trigger is 0% financing from Mitsubishi!

JSALES 03-07-2010 09:17 PM

another debate haha

fishing666 03-07-2010 09:27 PM
