| BBM Over seas?
Might be a dumb question but oh well. So... My friend is going Taiwan for a month or 2 and we both have Data + Blackberry Messenger. Will we still be able to send/receive messages? If so.. Will either of us get charged with extra fees? TIA

1. Yes, it is a dumb question
2. Your friend will get dinged with data charges, his best bet is to get a local prepaid simcard with a data plan in Taiwan to save money. Make sure his Berry is unlocked though.
3. Assuming that you're in Canada, you shouldn't be incurring any additional data charges.
EDIT: I also forgot to mention that his BBM might not work in Asia, as their network infrastructure does not support BBM service. Regular voice and internet browsing should work.

BBM didn't work in Taiwan for my cousin.
And even if it did, he'd be in for a nice surprise when he gets back from Asia and finds his phone bill sitting in his mailbox.

You'd be surprised how far a $10CAD investment in a local Taiwan prepaid simcard can go.

since bbm works through wifi with the network turned off, does it mean you would be able to use bbm in say, the states on just wifi?

alright, in terms of prepaid data plan for blackberries go, most likely you will need some sort of residence proof in taiwan in order to sign up for a blackberry compatible device. This was the case in HK, in fact, i signed up on a month to month plan which worked out to be cheaper than going with prepaid sim in HK.
the month to month allowed me to have 1000min anywhere and 400intra network minutes. for 80bux HKD as well has 298 for data thru smartone vodafone
of course, im not sure how it is in taiwan, but i would not be surprised if its the same
kthxbye

Um, how's that possible? If his phone is from here, and he has a data plan, his pin is tied to whoever his carrier is. Unless that is released...ie canceling his data plan and paying for any penalties, another carrier in asia or whatever will not be able to link his pin. It'll be like a stolen phone. Regardless of being prepaid or contract. It should not be possible. Posted via RS Mobile |

Anyone know if there are prepaid bbm sim cards in Hong Kong? TIA looked on all the carrier websites can't find anything

^ still .75 cents lol.
Last time I forgot to turn it off in 2 days I racked up 68 bucks of data.
There are prepaid sims in hk, I'm not sure if they support bbm like that tho, you got to unlock your phone release the pin on your current provider (not use the phone) go to hk put sim in and put pin on hk provider. And when you cone back it's the same.
Sadly bb is not like a reg number the pin is stored on the phone not the sim thus you need to "release" and "connect" to the corresponding network. Posted via RS Mobile |

I'm going to need to keep in touch with a friend of mine who will be in Virginia for 10 days and BBM is crucial
thanks in advance
